China Largest Gas Importer in 2018?

China  is already the biggest importer of oil and coal. After US and Russia, China is is the world’s third biggest user of natural gas. But, every year this country has to import around 40% of gas for its total needs. In this moment just Japan import more natural gas than China. Meanwhile, analysts say China should top Japan for the full year in 2018.

I read they are currently fighting major gas shortages in parts of the country after their biggest suppliers from Central Asia suddenly reduced shipments, for reasons that have yet to be established. But it's more of a short-term problem. There's enough gas for China and yes, it will certainly become the largest gas importer, there's just no other way for it.
