Drones for Offshore Platforms

Drones will be used to monitor oil flows in offshore wells so future spills can be prevented. I wonder when drones, or rather autonomous equipment, will start drilling and pumping.

I think we'll have to wait for a while before using drones in drilling and pumping. For now their function is to survey, detect and locate leaks in remote locations making offshore operations safer and cost efficient.

The usage of drones is still dealing with certain challenges,  like network security and connectivity. Connecting them to a network through Wi-Fi and depending on wireless connection to communicate, they are exposed to hacking and disabled to be used in remote locations.
