New Material For Greater And Cheaper Solar Power

Scientists are researching a new crystal which could be the answer for cheaper solar power than currently used silicon. Research is going into the qualities of perovskite cells and it could reduce costs to pennies per watt.

I've read perovskites are particularly capable to absorb light, much more than other materials. Does anyone know why this crystal isn't  already used for solar power?

I assume it's because this crystal dissolve easily so it could be a problem when it's used in humid conditions. Silicon is still more stable.
