Different level & Opposite View? U.S. Senate Leader Wants U.S. Troops To Stay In Syria, Afghanistan

Recommended Posts

The Republican leader of the U.S. Senate offered legislation on Tuesday urging the United States to keep troops in Syria and Afghanistan, as President Donald Trump’s administration moves toward withdrawals of American forces after years overseas. Saying that Islamic militant groups in the two countries continue to pose a “serious threat” to the United States, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said he had introduced an amendment to a broader Middle East security bill urging a “continued commitment” until al Qaeda, Islamic State and other groups are defeated. “We’re not the world’s policemen, but we are the leader of the free world, and it’s incumbent upon the United States to lead, to maintain a global coalition against terror and to stand with our partners,” McConnell said in a speech in the Senate. The measure would be an amendment to a broader Middle East security bill being debated in the Senate. That bill, which includes fresh sanctions on Syria and a measure combating the Boycott, Divest and Sanctions (BDS) movement against Israel, advanced in a procedural vote on Monday. Trump’s administration has announced plans to bring all U.S. forces home from Syria, saying that the Islamic State militant group had been defeated.

Kind of with Trump on this one.

American policy in the Middle East is like a gamble-holic in Vegas with a really big wallet. Just keep placing more chips on the table until you win. And you just keep losing. The treaty with Afganistan will just be a way to declare and leave. Hell, just leave, you know the government there can't control the country, why would we be able to? And being more brutal won't win either, just asks the Soviets. We can win every battle and still lose.

The way to beat the house is be the house, or don't play. It's not our house, don't play.

We don't understand, or control the rules, enough to do anything but change how we lose. Iran back to the 50s, Saddam was ours and what a success that turned out to be. Gulf war 2, OMG what a mess. It wasn't us, but the creation of Israel and discounting the people who already lived their for thousands of years creating a backlash that lasts generations. If it wasn't for the wealth to be extracted, we'd let this region play out on it's own. No fan of the Ottomans, but they managed the region a lot better than the west has and in the end it helped drive them into a bankruptcy of sorts. Let them fight each other, and take us off the table as their enemy.
