Polar vortex and nat gas goes down

Recommended Posts

With the 'historic' record cold wave (headlines I have seen), why the heck did nat gas go DOWN? You'd think it would spike. Over the past ten years, the nat gas market hasn't made a bit of sense time to time. Did more over-supply come about or what?

If you have an all-time record demand for gas and production still exceeds demand, then the price will go down. Of course, if the pipelines are full and it isn't possible to move any more product it doesn't matter what people need, what matters is what they can get.

Reduced industrial demand?

Also good wind speeds over the region all this week. Cold air is very dense so you get more output for a given speed of the wind.

Wind power saves the day again!

The trouble is the forecasts are pretty accurate these days, so the market knew about this well in advance. The spike you are looking for occurred on 1/11 and 1/14.

Classic buy the rumor (1/11, 1/14), sell the fact (now).
