Three British lawmakers on Monday endorsed reports that women activists detained in Saudi Arabia have been tortured, and said responsibility for what is likely a violation of international law could lie with “Saudi authorities at the highest level”. The conclusions of the panel indicate growing uneasiness among Western allies with alleged rights abuses under Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, the kingdom’s de facto leader who already facing opprobrium over last year’s murder of journalist Jamal Khashoggi. A United Nations investigator is now leading an international inquiry into the murder, which has tarnished the crown prince’s standing in the West after he won accolades for seeking to ease social restrictions and end the country’s dependence on oil revenues. Those reforms have been accompanied by a crackdown on dissent, including the arrest of over a dozen women’s rights campaigners starting last May, most of whom had advocated for the right to drive and an end to the male guardianship system.

This regime is facing new challenges and  once  considered strongman MBS is gradually loosing the grip. Controversy surrounding the brutal and barbaric killing of Kamal Khassoggi has not died down, yet another controversy taints the regime. MBS is really facing uphill task and surviving on the grace of Trump . If these situation continues, how long Trump will be able to protect MBS is a million dollar question. Trump is facing huge pressure from US lawmakers for its support to kingdom in Yemen and  not taking enough action against Khassoggi's barbaric killing. Although the regime pacifies western block with its sweeter crude , still western allies are pretty suspicious about kingdom's clandestine export of wahhabi extremest ideology .

Saudi Arabians have a very high standard of living. Venezuelans are eating out of garbage cans. There is a huge difference. We have learned that you cannot democratize an Islamic nation. They are known for Shariah Law, canings, beheadings etc. There is little freedom with Shariah.

Shariah is very similar to Torah, practically plagiarized though the formal answer is probably we are all people of the God of Abraham (Jews, Christians, Islamists), so of course it's similar. And most Saudis to not have a high standard of living, and its been dropping over the last ten or so years. Unemployment for the under 25 crowd is very high and a ticking time bomb. Hence the real need for 2030 to succeed. And unlike Venezuela, the land won't provide food and water. 

The simple fact is the USA has supported the Saudi system, so I have issues with us screaming democracy and we need to save a country, when that is not why we want to get involved. 

And not to disturb you, but a muslim is by definition a believer in the one true God, the God of Abraham. So Jews, and Christians, to many, are Muslims. Christians fall out of grace because you/we believe in three gods. Jesus is very important is Islam, for what that is worth.

Thanks for correcting me on the Saudi Arabian wealth. I was probably looking at old information and the fact that there are so many servants from foreign countries. Even RNs from America. They are paid very well. Overpopulation has been the biggest problem in the Middle East since WW1 and is the real root of their problems. In addition, their various despotic regimes that are virtual dictatorships. As far as Shariah, I stand by the fact that it is reprehensible and it is clear that Christians, Jews, Hindus, and Africans have all lost tens of millions of lives due to Muslim teachings. Christianity and Judaism are nearly extinct in the Middle East aside from Israel. Muslims are also pushing south in Africa.
