France has recalled its ambassador in Rome on Thursday after what it described as baseless and repeated attacks from Italy’s political leaders, whom it urged to return to a more friendly stance. Italy’s two deputy prime ministers, Matteo Salvini of the right-wing League and Luigi Di Maio of the populist, anti-establishment 5-Star movement, have in recent months goaded French President Emmanuel Macron on a number of issues.“France has been, for several months, the target of repeated, baseless attacks and outrageous statements,” its foreign ministry said in a statement. “Having disagreements is one thing, but manipulating the relationship for electoral aims is another,” it added, calling Italy’s attacks without precedent since World War Two. Di Maio has labelled France a creator of poverty in Africa and met with leaders of the “yellow vest” anti-government movement, while Salvini accused it of doing nothing to bring peace to Libya. The two deputy premiers, who swept to power last year, appear to believe that attacking Macron, a fervent Europhile, would motivate their domestic voter base before EU elections in May.

I don't blame France for temporarily withdrawing its ambassador to Italy. Top officials of the far left/far right coalition govt in Rome have lent their support to a yellow-vest "insurrection (their words, not mine) in France. The populist coalition in Italy is long on sleaziness and short on knowledge, and not at all interested in a society based on law.

Some yellow jackets have announced plans to run in the European elections in May.  But they have already announced four or five competing lists  adding more disputes to the growing divisions in the movement.

I think the protest will fade away in the coming weeks or months and Macron will easily survive this.

The European Union is tyrannical IMHO. They want to force each member and proposed member to allow illegal immigrants to be allowed as a condition for membership. Britain, Italy, Hungary, Poland, and other nations have objected strenuously. Merkel has lost her support to a great extent and France's Macron has a 25% popularity rating. Even in Sweden, the Sweden Democrats are rising in power.  Germany and France are very close because of failing leaders binding themselves together in an informal pact while desiring to build a European Army without even fulfilling their commitments to NATO. The Yellow Vest movement in France is another symptom of the terrible leadership of Macron. 

Europe is obviously run by an entrenched elite. Macron is a perfect example. Almost every one of the leaders of France has come from the university he graduated from. He is married to one of his teachers who is substantially older than he. 

The European Union has been very tyrannical in its negotiations with Britain on completing their Brexit. They have been extremely unhelpful and downright rude to the British.

For clarity - I do not think the EU is perfect ( about 65 % good, 35 % bad), but it is posts and opinions like yours that make it impossible to discuss reforms that could make the EU work - you seem to take a Breitbart opinion at face value. It is such a shame. 

Ron, pls do not take this personally because it is not meant as such. A friend once (jokingly in a work context) told me : never argue with an idiot. He will just drag you down to his level and beat you with  experience. I think there is a part of this in theextreme communications strategies.... instead of discussing what we can do to improve our societies / world we end up responding to outragous claims / opinions.

No. EU have made a distribution key which they forced through. But the distribution key is for all LEGAL asylum seekers. The EU have said nothing about Italys Salvini decree which basically says all non-legal immigrants are to receive no government aid. The issue in Europe is toseperate real refugees from economic migrants. This is an enforcement issue.

Furhter - if someone doesn't like the rules of the Union they are free to leave. No Tyrany.

I have no issues with the opinions that @ronwagn presents. I am just hoping to focus this discussion on facts. The EU is far from perfect. If I could I would change many things about the EU. But critizism needs to be based on FACTS!
