Expected Breakdown: Israel-Central Europe Summit Canceled After Polish Pullout

Recommended Posts

Poland on Monday pulled out of a summit in Jerusalem, triggering the collapse of the entire meeting, after the acting Israeli foreign minister said that Poles “collaborated with the Nazis” and “sucked anti-Semitism with their mothers’ milk. The developments mark a new low in a bitter conflict between Poland and Israel over how to remember and characterize Polish actions toward Jews during the German occupation of Poland in World War II. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had been due to meet with the leaders of four Central European nations known as the Visegrad group. With the Hungarian and Slovak prime ministers already in Israel and the Czech leader still planning to go, bilateral meetings were to go ahead instead. Netanyahu had touted the meeting as an important step in his outreach to the countries of Central Europe, which have pro-Israeli governments that he is counting on to counter the criticism Israel typically faces in international forums. Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki had already announced Sunday that he was pulling out of the meeting after a comment by Netanyahu last week about Polish cooperation with Nazis.

When decades of discourse results in more fascism and more war crimes, disconnect is the best action...

Some countries like a Poland, Ukraine, Belarus or Hungary yet to grapple with their role in the Holocaust. Perhaps they should visit the Nazi camps around them and revise some things...

Ignore, the history you do not like, right Poland? It's unacceptable that someone in the 21st century is trying to "change" one part of WW2 history...

Slow down... But by the current Israeli narrative, all Poles would supposedly have been antisemitic and have collaborated with Nazi Germany. That's not true.
Sadly, however, the Israeli government doesn't want to listen. It was a many examples about a courage and sacrifice of the Poles... I am someone who doesn't deny there were Polish people who did bad, but that's what happens in every war, and in each side..

You are exactly right. Dead and tortured Jews are no more tragic than dead and tortured people of any race or religion. Good North Americans, Germans, Italians, Russians, Slavs, Japanese, and Asians, Middle Easterners died in WW2. To mention the largest groups I can think of. The Russians lost by far the greatest numbers.

When you are a citizen of any country you are potentially subject to a military draft. The military sometimes commits atrocities or bombs many innocent civilians. All nations have done that, it is part of war and war is hell.

America put many Japanese in concentration camps just as Germans did. Germans tried to ship their Jews to other countries but no country would take them. All those countries are guilty of not helping the Jews. Germany is, of course, the worst culprit but your average German is not and most Poles are not. Israel needs to drop its bitterness and help rebuild peace in the world. I fully support Israel otherwise. Many far left liberals are now calling Jews the new Nazis. Israel needs to help itself by making sure that is never a valid argument. I think that Russia is probably the second most antisemitic nation outside of the Muslim countries. Many Israeli Jews came from Russia and still have fond feelings toward it.

About as many civilians die in wars as do military personnel.

Few Americans are anti Japanese or anti German and vice versa. We have gotten over it. It is past time for Jews to do the same.

There is no denying of the fact that Jews have faced hatred and oppression for generations .  The rise of the 3rd Reich and their deep rooted  anti-semiticism ended in an unprecedented holocaust of millions of innocent Jews during WW2.  It is true that during wars and great wars like WW1 or WW2 people from all races and regions perish in an orchestrated mutually destructive fighting but the killing of Jews was not due to War rather it was systematic Racial Extermination due to deep rooted Hatred.  It is very difficult to  come to terms with the pain and agony of such systematic dastardly and barbaric  killing of innocent Jews who were totally clueless what was going on in the gas chambers for years . This black scar will  never go away and continue to agonize and haunt the Jews community who have lost their Loved ones without any fault. I fully appreciate Israels's action and my heartfelt condolences to those who have lost their loved ones .
