New technique developed to turn carbon dioxide waste into fuel

Scientists working for the US Department of Energy have found an efficient way to turn waste carbon dioxide into fuel. The appeal of the new process is that it produces syngas, a mixture of hydrogen and carbon monoxide that can be used as a fuel – making the process more appealing to industry.

Why not simply plant more trees -- replenish the deforested parts of the world, for that matter -- and turn the CO2 into wood and Oxygen? It is a 4th grade stuff

A slight worry is that the use of this technology can be used by the fossil fuel industry to justify their continued output of CO2
