EV Battery Systems Can Stabilise Grid

There's another effect I don't think anyone has looked at yet: mass deployment of batteries would improve the competitiveness of coal & nuclear.  Both currently lose because they're capital intensive, and that capital expenditure can only be justified by high capacity factors.  Batteries shave demand peaks and fill demand troughs, effectively increasing base load demand.  That favors generation with the lowest fuel costs: coal and nuclear.

It may not be enough to beat natural gas, but we'll see.  I'm looking forward to watching this play out.
