US to rejoin Paris Agreement

Recommended Posts

President Donald Trump said that he actually cares about the environment and that his only misgivings about the Paris Agreement are that it treated the US unfairly. He admitted that Washington could rejoin the climate accord under fairer terms.

Well, does that mean the UK will rejoin the EU too then?

He's trolling all you people. The Paris agreement is more or less a bucketlist that each country delivers on its own and it doesn't oblige it to actually make anything.

It seems to me that he has absolutely no political opinion whatsoever; He's easily swayed by anyone making any sort of argument. Just yesterday global warming was a hoax made up by the Chinese

All this "bad deal" talk, yet never once have I heard him articulate any specific opposition.

A negotiator through and through. Classic. Trump states early on his intention to pull out of the deal. Leaks in September that maybe US could reverse its position. A few months later, outright says US may reconsider if terms were more favorable to US. If you want five, ask for ten. Makes sense to me. This is Trump's way of getting what he wants.

Return to the Paris Agreement. No Wall. Staying with the International Iran Deal. Administration now needs to reaffirm  support for NAFTA and try to get the US into the TPP and we are all set. Year wasted

The US is second in carbon emissions after China, which has a much larger population than US by about a billion people. Paris Agreement is essential, not just for the US, but for the rest of  the world too.

We all live in the same world. We need to stand together to take care of it. One world, one people.

As I know, and as it's written - Earliest effective withdrawal by the U S can't be before 11/4/20.Until the withdrawal takes effect, the U S may be obligated to maintain its commitments under the Agreement, such as to continue reporting its emissions to the United Nations -
So, by the fact US is know part of PA... Sometimes is hard to understand what president wants to say

Simplify, the US are not out of the Paris Climate Accord. Any formal withdrawal couldn't happen until 2020.

Earth will likely warm way beyond the crucial tipping point that the Paris agreement was meant to avoid

Very clear. It means we must use some unconventional ways to solve our problems. A combined efforts by many people. Especially those in under developed countries. Pay no attention to the deniers because it can be done.

The climate change comes from economic activities! The measures ignoring the economy are one hand omissions! A genuine green economic principle is effective!

Each country if want to do that, can have a good balance between business and being environmentally responsible, strict regulations that work. Hurts businesses that want to pollute. PA is on that way.

Agreed. The right economic moves and right rules can make step forward to our future.

My biggest fear about this. Will PA make any changes to the environment? How to stopping China - the worst air pollutant on the world.

The thing about climate change is that people don't take it seriously. Climate change is real and the worse it gets the higher the price to pay to get it better.

Maybe US is second, but a VERY distant second. Per capita, Saudi Arabia is a bigger carbon emitter than the US and China

It's not that people don't take it seriously. It's that people are largely idealistic. Everyone wants everyone else to make the hard sacrifices. Let's blame it on governments and Big Oil, instead of on the everyday users and enjoyers of such carbon emitting activities. The masses are not going to suck up higher taxes to subsidize green energy more than we already do. We're not going to shower less, stop buying bottled water, or ride bicycles to work. Most people are not going to pay double for a hybrid vehicle. We're not going to downsize our homes so we have less to heat. We're not going to move into the city from our suburban homes to save the commute, unless we're trying to save their own time rather than the earth.

That we need to shift toward a greener path is certain. But that doesn't happen just because you signed some piece of paper. The people have to be on board. But we're all too selfish to do what it will really take.
