Elizabeth Warren Wants To Break Up Google, Amazon, Facebook, Apple

Recommended Posts

Elizabeth Warren wants to break up Apple, Facebook, Google, and Amazon.

She may yet find unlikely allies in Republicans. Under her proposals Apple’s app store, for example, would be broken off into a separate company.

Her aim is to stop these companies from abusing their power to act in a monopolistic manner by levying fees on app developers and promoting their apps above competitors as well as acting in a discriminatory manner i.e. kicking out apps that are seen to support political views or speech they disagree with, as Apple, Google did with Gab (according to msm it’s Nazi Twitter). This is why she might find allies on the Right.

“These companies would be prohibited from owning both the platform utility and any participants on that platform. Platform utilities would be required to meet a standard of fair, reasonable, and nondiscriminatory dealing with users. Platform utilities would not be allowed to transfer or share data with third parties.”

Here the platform utilities would be Amazon’s Marketplace, Google’s ad exchange and Google Search. These utilities would become separate companies.

She would also unwind the following mergers:

Amazon: Whole Foods, Zappos

Facebook: WhatsApp, Instagram

Google: Waze, Nest, DoubleClick

India has already taken such steps with Amazon and Walmart wherein they cannot sell products on their websites from a company they have equity interest in and that competes with products that are sold through their websites.
