Apparently the "Keep Oil & Gas in the Ground" crowd and the "ZOMG RUSSIA RUSSIA RUSSIA" crowd have joined forces to save the EU from having sufficient hydrocarbons.  Because hydrocarbons are eeeeeevil.

Should be a fun show to watch, as the clown car officially pulls over and disgorges a load of pompous politicians spewing assorted variations of "The Sky is Falling" hysteria, to panic the masses.

Europe should have been fracking for their own oil and gas for decades. That would have been the most logical course. Dependence on Russia strengthens Russia's hand in geopolitics. If they buy LNG it will still be a relatively low priced fuel and Russia will be a competitor.

The European Union nations including Britain seem to be falling all over each other. They are now losing the support of their populace to favor Muslim and other immigrants over their own people. It sounds familiar and will have similar political results. The end Goal seems to be a global government. Populism is the only answer to avoid government domination and ignoring the will of the people.

The reason for this demand is so clear. Let's back to Paris Agreement. Was is it for climate change? of course not. It was an agreement that led world ( especially Europe) to not use fossil fuels for their energy . But why? Because Europe and Japan  don't have much oil or gas resources but has enough for industry supplies. Also most European countries and Japan are technologically advanced that allow them to install and use renewable plants or nuclear plants cheaper and faster than others except Canada and U.S. That agreement force all European countries to not import much oil or gas from Middle East , U.S or Russia. Also this agreement force countries like Iran, Iraq, Saudi Arabia and other rich oil and gas resource but poor technology countries to install renewable plants . The fact is that these countries should import main parts from Europe or Japan and also after install and using these plants the oil price would fall even the world economy is in its worst case. The president Obama plan was "saving U.S oil for posterity Americans" because U.S can manage it's energy from non fossil resources.  At this time the subject that European leaders are worry about is independence from Russia or U.S for their energy and industry. The oil price is low so European and Japanese people prefer using oil and gas instead of installing high cost  solar plants or dangerous nuclear plants so they should import oil and gas. In this case Venezuela is at crisis, U.S applied sanctions against Iran, Iraq is not stable, Libya is not a unite country,In Saudi Arabia there are sounds of opposition of kingdom regime and also Mohammad bin Salman started to dominate the power and for this poisoned his cousins. So what countries can export sweat light oil or gas to Europe ? That's clear : U.s and Russia. why Europe and Japan protect JCPOA  ?   for importing Iranian oil. Why Russia protect Iranian regime? because only this regime thinks U.S is the big Satan if regime falls the next regime would have a deep relation with U.S and Europe and would be the main energy exporter to Europe. Why Trump take back sanctions? because he has a good relation with Russians! and knows Iranian don't buy much weapons like Saudi Arabia. They produces inside .But Europe doesn't want to dependent to fossil fuels even with Iran oil. I think the demand supports new non fossil  plants projects

That description would make for a great cartoon.  You should send it to one of the big political cartoonists.

true.

You know what is also true? 30% is not the majority. It is a minority that needs to be listened to.

True to an extent. But only an extent.

You know what is also true - consensus is that this makes the majority listen to the minority. Achieving some balance; moderation. That is good.

Just A-holes further lowering themselves to slander the opposition by name calling.

True. You know what's also true? If they were polling in the single digits you'd be crowing how Europeans are so smart not to fall for populists. You'd recommend they be ignored because they are an insignificant minority.

You see the writing on the wall and pretend to be magnanimous and interested in moderation and listening to everyone.
