“The current government of B.C. has repeatedly committed publicly to doing everything it can to prevent the (Trans Mountain) Pipeline Expansion Project from going ahead,” Alberta submitted. “It lacks the constitutional authority to do it directly, that is: stop the project or place sufficient roadblocks in its way that it cannot realistically proceed.”

But B.C.’s lawyer Arvay countered Monday that the province’s aim is purely environmental.

“The likelihood of an event is uncertain but carries the possibility of catastrophic impacts,” he said. “Yes, when the present government was in opposition, it said it would use every tool in the tool box to stop the project.

“After it became government, they received legal advice that said you can’t do that.”

 CP rail announced they are building a canapux plant near fort mcmurray which will mix recycled plastic with bitumen to create solid bitumen bricks with an air bubble in the middle. The bricks are durable, float, can be transported in open top hopper cars, dont create dust or soot like coal, and can be exported with existing rail and port infrastructure. The plastic recycling plant and canapux plant will be on native land part owned and operated by indigenous people. It will consume and recycle all the used residential plastic recycling of the entire province. 

 

Every complaint the BC greens have has been addressed by this project. It cant spill, it's not flammable, no diluent used, indigenous participation, it's going to recycle so much geezus plastic it's incredible, doesnt pollute the air.

 

Their response to this announcement? 

....but co2 emissions.... Paris agreement...hurr Schmurr climate change herp derp  give us money for forest fires....

As for trans mountian, forget it. We need to hold a funeral for the pipeline and move on. 

Northern gateway was the better route. But canada has this problem with a certain rainbow sock wearing son of a commie mr. Dress up named trudeau jr who decided to ban oil tankers on the west coast of bc because....whales? 

Northern gateway would not be facing this kind of opposition because there aren't half a million greenies living within 50 miles of the pipeline terminus  like with trans mountian. It's like trying to open a gay bar in Saudi Arabia. It ain't happening.

That is a VERY interesting idea!  I would have to speculate that the plastics are shredded in some fashion to allow mixing with the bitumen, and the process of crafted the bricks or pucks involves injecting that air bubble into the center. So: is it the intention to place the entire brick into the refinery process and extract fresh oil out of that plastic?

Yeah, there have been ideas like this: bitumen pellets, bitumen pucks, now bricks. But obviously nothing is too good if it's a hydrocarbon chain. So sad when common sense gives up and leaves.
