California's last nuclear power plant to close by 2025

Recommended Posts

California's only remaining nuclear power plant, the Diablo Canyon plant near San Luis Obispo, will begin closing in 2025, state regulators announced.  The closing will likely mark the end of the state's use of nuclear power to provide electricity. California law places a ban on building more nuclear power plants until the federal government establishes a long-term policy on dealing with nuclear waste.

I don't know much about this, but from a layperson, I'm thinking it might have been wise to have a long-term policy on dealing with nuclear waste BEFORE building nuclear power plants.

Right. I do worry about burning bridges. Nuclear provides an important baseline supply. Reliability of supply might suffer.

Shut it down and buy more power from Oregon where they burn natural gas to generate California's electricity. How ridiculous.
