Close Eye on Q4 Earnings for Energy Stocks

Recommended Posts

Energy stocks might start looking pretty nice. Watching Q4 earnings that should start coming out this week. Plenty of net operating cashflow now for spending ...

Here's a shortlist of upcoming earnings, but I don't know who will have earnings this week already... (looks like late Feb to me is when to really start watching):

  • 6 Feb: Pioneer National Resources
  • 13 Feb: Occidental Petroleum
  • 28 Feb: QEP Resources
  • 28 Feb: Sanchez Energy
  • 28 Feb: Continental Resources

You really think Q4 already is going to show strong earnings?

Seems so ... Zacks expects "energy will likely witness the strongest earnings growth in the fourth quarter ... in other words, energy will likely be the only Zacks sector to report triple-digit earnings growth."

yeah Carrizo is a good bet. Not keen on Pioneer, though, with earnings call on 6 Feb. This one is expected to underperform and the stock is expensive.

Interesting one, but their Q4 production guidances was cut ... so that hasn't been kind to the stock.

Chesapeake up almost 15% over the past month ... pretty cheap stock to get on in if Q4 earnings are expected to impress.
