ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) — Two New York state lawmakers are introducing legislation that would ban the development of new fossil fuel plants or pipelines as part of the state’s energy system.

The bill would also direct state energy officials to create a plan for moving the state’s electrical grid entirely off fossil fuels by no later than 2040.

The measure is sponsored by Sen. Jen Metzger and Assemblywoman Nily Rozic, both Democrats. The two lawmakers plan a press conference Monday at the state Capitol.

The bill is one of several under consideration this year that seek to wean the state off fossil fuels.

In January, Cuomo set a new goal for the state to derive 100 percent of its energy from renewable sources by 2040, the nation’s most aggressive clean energy goal.

Energy companies providing fossil fuels and companies that provide secondary products to make lives better and have a higher quality of life and standard of life, should stop the supplies of all those into NY for an X amount of time , 10 days, 2 weeks, a month? See how things fare in NY. The Big Apple will become the BIG ROTTING APPLE DUMP with BIG WORMS !! LOL

Lets see everything derived from crude oil and petchem, every modern appliance in the kitchen to the communications gadgets, oh all the financial transactions on Wall STreet, let that affect NY MAIN Street.

No agriculture, no growing food, no heating, cooling, transport, no manufacturing , no construction, no healthcare!!! without fossil fuels!!!

These people are worse  than reactionary , they truly want an agenda that harms the people, destroys the economy, hands the control and $$$ into their own slimy fingers and filthy hands. They dont get the implications.

The people who promote these ideologies should be forced to go live for a certain amount of time in stone age conditions and then come back to tell the rest of us how easy and wonderful it was. :D;)

It cannot be done.  There is no possible way that NY State can run only on renewables.  It is not physically possible.

Readers here should recognize that there are actually Two New Yorks.  One is the City, which is totally Democrat.  Even the billionaires are Democrat.  Then there is "Upstate," which starts about 40 miles north of the City, at Sullivan County, and continues for another 450 miles all the way to Canada.  That NY is solidly Republican.  Those two factions, who live in different worlds and think totally differently, collide in the Legislature in Albany, which in turn is controlled by the City Democrat, the "Speaker."  The result of this bizarre political system is total war in the Legislature, and Total War between the Legislature and the Governor.

That 2040 idea is going nowhere.  Upstate will never go along with it. As for the City legislators - well, what can I say.  They are all totally nuts.

Meanwhile, next door in sleepy Connecticut, the nuclear power industry built three impressive nuke plants at a place in the Eastern End of the State, called Waterford.  the complex is known as "Millstone."  One of the three plants, which produced about 670 MW, is shut down.  The remaining two have an output of about 2 GW, which is a lot of power.  More importantly, it is a lot of cheap power.

So Connecticut gets into "auctions" where power producers can bid on supplying power to the distributor companies  (the producers are separated from the distributors).  OK, so Millstone, now owned by Dominion Energy, says, "Hey, we are not fossil fuel, so let us bid on those contracts reserved for renewables."  Of course, the renewables command a higher floor price.  SO you can see the motivation.  The State regulators say:  "Not until 2023."  Millstone has to produce its power for less money and incur higher costs, mostly for security and a fully manned fire department on site, until then. So, no surprise,Dominion now says it will shut down the entire complex,  Bye-bye the last nuke plants in Connecticut.  You want power?  Go get it from the old coal plant in Bridgeport, or import it from a gas plant in New York  (which Cuomo wants to shut down!) or go light candles.

Want a nuke plant, cheap?  PS: you take these plants off-line, and your price of electricity is going to bankrupt the State  (more so than it already is).

Images tend to get fuzzier and lower resolution the more they get copied and reposted.  This claasic reaction image below is no longer clear, but the new meme text is sharp and clear.  Too much recycling of images.

Need to include California in that idea too, they have great aspirations, but no viable plans to achieve those lofty goals. Unless you count the plan where everyone pays what? 20.00 a gallon for gas?.....lol. The companies that are affected should just go to those places and tell them that they refuse to sell to that area anymore. The consumers will go elsewhere and buy those products, bring them back to their areas, putting retailers out of business and chasing jobs away in the process. It's easy for the wealthy to make these decisions, they will not suffer for them, it's the others that will suffer. Then those that can't do it anymore will just move away to somewhere cheaper to live, and those left behind sitting on their high horses won't have anyone to mow their lawns, clean their homes, fix their cars, homes, appliances etc. Think about it. Just like LA talking about making every highway in the county a toll road, like everyone on the freeway is just out tooling around because they are bored with nothing better to do, right?
