UK restarts search for area to host highly radioactive waste

Recommended Posts

The UK government is expected to begin a nationwide search for a community willing to host an underground nuclear waste dump to store highly radioactive material for thousands of years. The last effort hit a brick wall in 2013 when Cumbria county council, the only local authority still in the running as a host for the dump, rejected it.

why would anyone consider burying used nuclear fuel when new reactors are being developed that will use spent nuclear fuel and that fuel will be 90% used up

Yeah.. um... inviting prospect. Who would want a nuclear dump in their community? Crazy. Can't they just send it into orbit?

Other nuclear countries, such as Finland, have already started building underground stores. Scandinavians, always copy Scandinavians

Why not bury it under the power station. Surely if the geology is right to build it, then its right to store the consequences

Don't forget agreements to ship radioactive material, avoiding a hard border in Ireland, getting enough permits for UK hauliers to drive in the EU, aviation safety, policing intelligence...
