Protecting U.S. Coastal Communities From Sea Level Rise Will Cost $400 Billion

To protect themselves from the inevitable threat of rising sea levels, coastal communities in the United States will have to shell out more than $400 billion, according to a new report released by the Center for Climate Integrity. According to this report, 50,000 miles of coastal barriers will need to be built across 22 states over the next two decades. 

Researchers expect Florida to pay the steepest price, more than $75 billion to protect its coastal communities from rising seas.

An 'inevitable threat' is not a guarantee that it is going to happen. If it does happen, it will be glacially gradual (pun intended).

Do these States (and the American taxpayer) really want to shell out 400 BILLION DOLLARS immediately, on a perceived threat?

Those coastal communities will continue to be protected, by the homeowners themselves.  There is far too much valuable real estate to just walk away.  The homeowners will pay for seawalls, and they will be installed, Greenies or no Greenies. If the entire shorefront from Maine to Florida is reinforced by seawalls, hey so be it.
