Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Thursday he hoped Norway-brokered talks between Venezuela’s government and the opposition would normalize the situation in country and bring an end to political turmoil. Russia, like China and Cuba, is a staunch ally of Venezuela President Nicolas Maduro, while the opposition’s Juan Guaido is backed by the United States and many other western countries.

Anybody who follows the situation in Venezuela knows that Russia has defended Maduro's autocratic regime from the beginning, yet he tells other parties to stay out. Absolute influence of Russia on every field..

"Venezuela will use Russian military equipment during exercises on July 24, RIA news agency cited Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov as saying on Thursday. “The arms and military equipment in Venezuela held by the Bolivarian armed forces are mainly Russian manufactured equipment. So it (the drills) simply can’t be carried out any other way,” he was quoted as saying."

What is most important is the will of the people. Restoring it should be our main concern, not what Russia, China, and Cuba want.

Maduro is still in power and commands the military so its not over yet. I think we need to wait a few days to see how this actually pans out as its still unclear but as far as we can tell, Venezuela has two presidents

The other problem is that Russia and China support Maduro and say Juan Guaido is the illegal one.

I have a Venezuelan girlfriend with relatives still in the country so we have literally inside information...

I assume America is doing everything it can to undermine Maduro. Our army is probably training Venezuelan expatriates in South America to take over Venezuela when the time comes. That is preferable to using our own troops. We have Venezuelans expatriates in America also and Venezuelans in the U.S. military also.

The US has a bad track record when intervening in other countries as of late. Bad outcomes and unintended consequences seem to out number the good. Sanctions and limiting trade are good options but military involvement/especially ground troops has proved many times to be a waste of lives and treasure.
