President Xi just placed a very large bet on . . . Joe Biden. 

The American farmer has always been the "Achilles Heel" in the economy--so a tariff war always winds up with retaliatory tariffs on farm goods and governmental subsidies to try to put a bandaid on it, thereby placing farmers on welfare, which they hate. Today, that extended. 

Tally it up: soybeans (Midwest), autos (Michigan and Ohio), crude oil (Texas). 

In full transparency, I am a lifelong Republican. I realize that the Chinese have stolen our intellectual property. I also realize that "The Art of War" was written 1500 years ago, every Chinese leader since has studied it, including Chairman Mao when he outlined his "Hundred-Year Marathon." Chapter VI was, broadly interpreted, "Reality and Illusion." When you look at global economies being damaged by the trade war, and the dismay of American farmers, joined soon by oil and gas and auto-makers, that is reality. When Peter Navarro, the president's economic advisor, goes on national television and says that tariffs don't hurt anyone, the yield curve didn't actually invert, and the trade war is actually helping the American consumer, well, that's illusion. 

Just my opinion.

He was probably outcasted to Taiwan ( or may be being asked nicely to leave owing to the relationship with Sun - the then winning leader in revolution against Qing dinasty) ; formed a party and declared himself the president there.......... He was then succeeded by his brother Chiang Jing Guo in Taiwan...... Not sure if he returned to China for a piece of cake and a cup of mountainous water mentioned.......

I'm a little confused......... US would like to strengthen internal economy..... therefore ...... would like to cut down the amount of import. The fastest way they are thinking off is to impose tax on import products............. China - acting as one of the biggest trading partners - retaliates to impose tax on US products exported to China.......

For a country with that size of population..... total freedom would create chaos difficult to be controlled.... Further........ the demonstration was about asking for voting election....... which ...... either then or now....... is not going to be feasible - too much wastage of time and money to mobilize billions of people to vote or no?? To all inteligent americans: when you rise tarrifes on aprox 300bln goods you are importing, customers ( importers) pay them while making customs clearence. Means the custemer, those one fatty guys who even go to CostCo in electric driving chairs, they will pay as all americans.

Near 100% of the products(not ag) "sold" to China, get assembled IN China, and resold back....  There is still A lot of manufacturing in the USA.  Done to avoid some labor cost, but loses a giant chunk in transportation cost.  Yes, most of this work will go to ~Mexico/Colombia/Nigeria/Vietnam/Malaysia/Indonesia is my bet.  Some will come back .... until another round of tariffs

Free trade is not free except with countries with near same regulations/laws/form of government.  Anything else, depending on viewpoint is a form of subsidy or slavery.

The main reason the left and the leftist media hate Trump is because Trump is not politically correct.

My biggest fear with Trump is that he will make a deal with China, and then 5-10 years from now, people will say
how stupid Trump was to make a deal with a country that has no intention to uphold any deals.
Imagine if US made a deal with Putin.  Does anyone really expect Putin to be honest and uphold deals?  Of course not.
But the US media still has not figured out that the Chinese communist party are not the type who have respect for deals.
Some people are simply not possible to make deals with, because you will uphold your side of the deal, while they have
no intentions to uphold any deals, and will use the deal a way to manipulate/control you, while they secretly violate the deal,
any time it's suits them.

I watched an interview with him on GMB where he was being interviewed by Piers Morgan.  I found it a fascinating watch.  Trump came across as thoughtful, calculating and a lot deeper than he seems at first.  And to be fair, he's stuck to his campaign pledges.  It is one of my BIGGEST gripes with politicians - they make out a manifesto, then as soon as they're elected it's like they use it as toilet paper. 

Now don't get me wrong, he's no Snow White but it would appear having a businessman in power is a big difference to a politician in the big chair.  I've been watching from across the pond with interest and will continue to do so.
