Trump hates on others.  Others hate on him.  That's how I see it.

Personally I think all this hate is good.

President Xi just placed a very large bet on . . . Joe Biden.

The American farmer has always been the "Achilles Heel" in the economy--so a tariff war always winds up with retaliatory tariffs on farm goods and governmental subsidies to try to put a bandaid on it, thereby placing farmers on welfare, which they hate. Today, that extended.

Tally it up: soybeans (Midwest), autos (Michigan and Ohio), crude oil (Texas).

In full transparency, I am a lifelong Republican. I realize that the Chinese have stolen our intellectual property. I also realize that "The Art of War" was written 1500 years ago, every Chinese leader since has studied it, including Chairman Mao when he outlined his "Hundred-Year Marathon." Chapter VI was, broadly interpreted, "Reality and Illusion." When you look at global economies being damaged by the trade war, and the dismay of American farmers, joined soon by oil and gas and auto-makers, that is reality. When Peter Navarro, the president's economic advisor, goes on national television and says that tariffs don't hurt anyone, the yield curve didn't actually invert, and the trade war is actually helping the American consumer, well, that's illusion.

Just my opinion.

Tom Kirkman August 6 in Oil (General)

When Chiang Kai-shek was in power, life in China was primitive. A group of revolutionaries walked for two years, over 18 mountain chains, in the years 1934-'35. They walked all the way from the southeastern corner of China to the northwest corner, fighting all the way. At the end of it, a new president was installed by coup. That man was Mao Zedong.

Not sure if this is correct...... Watched a drama series called Sun Yat Sen or a book called "three sisters of Song" (can't recall which)....... Chiang Kai Shek was a traitor during Sun Yet Sen era...... (Chiang and Sun were linked via marriages to the song sisters). He was in exile after losing battle to Sun and gang. He was probably outcasted to Taiwan ( or may be being asked nicely to leave owing to the relationship with Sun - the then winning leader in revolution against Qing dinasty) ; formed a party and declared himself the president there.......... He was then succeeded by his brother Chiang Jing Guo in Taiwan...... Not sure if he returned to China for a piece of cake and a cup of mountainous water mentioned.......

Except for some manufacturing leaving China, it's the US companies that are paying the tariffs.  The tariffs are in effect a tax on private companies operating in China.

China isn't blinking.  But Trump is.

I'm a little confused......... US would like to strengthen internal economy..... therefore ...... would like to cut down the amount of import. The fastest way they are thinking off is to impose tax on import products............. China - acting as one of the biggest trading partners - retaliates to impose tax on US products exported to China.......

Aren't we having a draw here??O.o:$

The difference is mainland China has no compunction about killing a few thousand of their citizens to make a point. We all saw Tiananmen Square up close if not personal. I've met survivors personally, so don't pretend it's just propaganda tovarisch.

Regarding the number of people killed during the event......... it might be much lower which included 23 students (students formed majority of the gathered protestors then) - reference: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1989_Tiananmen_Square_protests#Official_figures

For a country with that size of population..... total freedom would create chaos difficult to be controlled.... Further........ the demonstration was about asking for voting election....... which ...... either then or now....... is not going to be feasible - too much wastage of time and money to mobilize billions of people to vote or no?? Pardon my ignorant but......... what are we judging here??

To all inteligent americans: when you rise tarrifes on aprox 300bln goods you are importing, customers ( importers) pay them while making customs clearence. Means the custemer, those one fatty guys who even go to CostCo in electric driving chairs, they will pay as all americans.

Got it?

China with imports from THE GREAT AND MIGHTY EVER USA, mostly raw materials, just will switch to another farmers, oil producer etc.

Got it?

To be “already winner” an inteligent american must dont have a clue what is marco-economics and just to belive in whatever written in tweetter like in Bible.

“the choosen” is delivering great. We all stocked with pop-corn. Lets have fun!

China never called the shots. Even now, China only gets USA treasury bonds which are worthless, in return for exporting real goods like steel, plastics, rare earth minerals etc. This means that China is simply selling to USA on loans. So, China is not having any advantage in trade. USA has refused to allow China to buy real estate from the dollar reserves, refused to allow China to buy USA companies and has imposed many restrictions on Chinese investment in USA.

In reality, USA is being unfair to China by getting free goods and then giving back nothing.

And BS: You cannot buy a single thing in China as the CCP owns 100% of ALL LAND.  Chinese citizens cannot even own their own home or business without giving half to the CCP goons in charge.  Foreign companies cannot buy land to build manufacturing as CHINA said they would allow under WTO rules.

And Dear fool, who the Hell bought Smith pork products here in USA? Hrmm?  China.... who has massively inflated real estate prices here in the USA?  People from China buying homes they cannot own in CHINA!  In China you only get a lease until some head honcho decides he wants your land and gives you pennies on the dollar.

Near 100% of the products(not ag) "sold" to China, get assembled IN China, and resold back....  There is still A lot of manufacturing in the USA.  Done to avoid some labor cost, but loses a giant chunk in transportation cost.  Yes, most of this work will go to ~Mexico/Colombia/Nigeria/Vietnam/Malaysia/Indonesia is my bet.  Some will come back .... until another round of tariffs

Cheers.

Free trade is not free except with countries with near same regulations/laws/form of government.  Anything else, depending on viewpoint is a form of subsidy or slavery.

World is not a utopia.  Stop pretending it is a utopia in respect to trade between nations

About hate:

Democrats hate republicans.

Democrats double-double hate Trump because he helped republicans to win.

The main reason the left and the leftist media hate Trump is because Trump is not politically correct.
Trump says whatever he feels like saying.  Trump generally treats women however he wants to.
Trump generally does whatever he wants to do, but tries to stay within the law.

To the feminist left, Trump is a monster, an abomination, not because of his policies, but because of his speech and lifestyle.
The left would rather elect a person who destroys the US economy but is polite and affable.

Most likely China will never capitulate to Trump, and even if they do, it will probably be a ruse and they will not uphold
whatever trade deal is agreed to.  Socialist/Communist parties are pretty much all very authoritarian/totalitarian and have little
or no respect or intention to share power.  100M+ Chinese will starve before Xi even considers bending the knee.
That's the mentality Trump is dealing with.  This is how they think.  Communists are incredibly stubborn zealots,
that even occasional mass starvation is not enough to change their minds.  Communist think like a general.
The general thinks to himself "I can win this battle but I have to sacrifice 25% of my army.  Ok. let's do it. We can always
get more soldiers later."

My biggest fear with Trump is that he will make a deal with China, and then 5-10 years from now, people will say
how stupid Trump was to make a deal with a country that has no intention to uphold any deals.
Imagine if US made a deal with Putin.  Does anyone really expect Putin to be honest and uphold deals?  Of course not.
But the US media still has not figured out that the Chinese communist party are not the type who have respect for deals.
Some people are simply not possible to make deals with, because you will uphold your side of the deal, while they have
no intentions to uphold any deals, and will use the deal a way to manipulate/control you, while they secretly violate the deal,
any time it's suits them.

As a Brit (living in the UK all my life), I have to admit that Trump comes across to me as very brash and tends to open his mouth without thinking quite a bit.

However, I am pro-Trump.

I watched an interview with him on GMB where he was being interviewed by Piers Morgan.  I found it a fascinating watch.  Trump came across as thoughtful, calculating and a lot deeper than he seems at first.  And to be fair, he's stuck to his campaign pledges.  It is one of my BIGGEST gripes with politicians - they make out a manifesto, then as soon as they're elected it's like they use it as toilet paper.

Now don't get me wrong, he's no Snow White but it would appear having a businessman in power is a big difference to a politician in the big chair.  I've been watching from across the pond with interest and will continue to do so.

Kit Moore,

I take it your pleased that we now have our own mini Trump aka Al (Borris) Johnson  ?

Talk of recession is nonsense, as a recession only starts after 2 consecutive Quarters of econonic shrinkage.  There hasn't even been 1 Quarter of economic decline since Trump took office and reversed Obama's economic downward spiral and jobs bleeding to overseas.  Recession is not imminent, despite the panic, hue and cry from NYT, CNN and other MSM that want Trump removed from office by any means necessary.

^ my comment from August.

Meanwhile, today:

Forced by Reality – The Washington Post Cancels the Recession

In July and August the U.S. was heading into a recession according to the media.  The Washington Post was at the forefront of the recession narrative with multiple articles predicting certain doom for the U.S. economy…. except there was a problem. All of the economic data would not support their predictions.  Things only got better.

The media gnashed their horrible teeth and stomped their horrible feet; alas Main Street continued to get stronger; wages higher, unemployment lower, and more middle-class Americans gaining strength and financial footing.  The media shouted at trees hoping and praying their predictions would soon evidence and the economy would throw itself into reverse.  Foiled again, it just never happened.  Democrats have permanent frowns.

Today the Washington Post admits defeat, informs their audience that cheering for economic collapse is futile, and states, reluctantly, the U.S. is unlikely to enter a recession:
