Bahrain is actually a lovey little island. And historically does a commendable job at managing multiculturalism. 

Politically it's a vassal state of the KSA. And where expats, and Saudis, go to let loose a bit. The alliance of the peoples there is, shall we say practical. They know where the money comes from. They aren't interested in going to war. Shia majority, large Indian population. Very large expat population.

You can find a mosque (Shia), mosque (Sunni), temple (Hindi), synagog, church, and a bar, all within close proximity of each other.
