Venezuela reportedly hit with blackouts this afternoon, my Twitter feed suggests. Hard to mine those cryptocurrencies that way, I think.

Venezuela has suffered blackouts fairly regularly. Nothing new here. Some are planned blackouts to save on electricity, others are unplanned. It's electric grid is in shambles. Within the last couple of years, they've cut back public sector employees work days down to two, and they even have adjusted their clocks (other than daylight savings time) to have the workday centered around as much daylight as possible to conserve on electricity.
