What If Chinese Panel Makers Move to U.S.?

Some are planning to simply move their production to the US to avoid the tariffs. Then what?

Tariff  encourages Chinese companies like JinkoSolar and Trina Solar to build plants in the USA. This would also encourage more steel, glass, and mining to open. The jobs generated would be huge! Plus reduce shipping costs to Western Hemisphere. And money goes to the China.

China already has experience with this. Isn’t the first time China’s solar has been stung by tariffs. Chinese solar companies have previously moved production factories to Southeast Asia to avoid anti-dumping tariffs ranging between 26% to 78% imposed by the U.S. Commerce Department in 2014 on solar panel exports.

Moving production to other markets in developing countries to sustain themselves is a more realistic alternative to the realities of the new tariff.

I saw info about Longi Solar, one of the Chinese solar giant, recently announced plans to open a 1GW factory in India. India currently is on a list of countries exempt from the 30% solar tariff, along with Brazil and a host of African nations. Solution is always somewhere around us:)

Currently 80% of Solar panels are imported. 20% made in the USA. The reason for this wide margin is that it was hard for any American manufacturer to get off the ground because they simply couldn't compete with cheap Chinese panels.

 The Germans and Chinese are just investors in a couple US solar companies. 90% solar panels are made by (mostly subsidized) outside USA.

So, China simply sells their solar panels to Canada, who imports them at a lower cost to U.S., or us citizens bootleg them over the border

Right. The only economy hurt by scrapping or renegotiating NAFTA is China. (and Canada--but let's face it, who really cares about Canada? Their contributions to the world are limited to Tom Green, Daylight Savings time, and the phrase "eh?")
