This article contains still images from the interactive dashboards available in the original blog post. To follow the instructions in this article, please use the interactive dashboards. Furthermore, they allow you to uncover other insights as well.

This interactive presentation contains the latest gas (and a little oil) production data, from all 9,180 horizontal wells in Pennsylvania that started producing from 2010 onward, through August.

After record gas production in July, August set a new high again at 18.6 Bcf/d. But completion activity is lower than last year; 473 wells came online in the first 8 months of this year, versus 525 in the same period last year.

About 70% of this gas production is produced in just 4 counties; Susquehanna, Washington, Greene and Bradford. The following screenshot, taken from our ShaleProfile Analytics service (Professional), shows how natural gas production has evolved in these counties.

All other counties are each below 1.2 Bcf/d.

The ‘Advanced Insights’ presentation is displayed below:

This “Ultimate Return” overview shows the relationship between gas production rates and cumulative gas production, averaged for all horizontal wells that began production in a particular year.

The “Productivity ranking” dashboard (the 4th tab), lists all operators by the average cumulative gas production in the first 2 years. Cabot, with all of its production in Susquehanna County, shows by far the best results (5.1 Bcf).

We plan to have new updates on the Permian and the Eagle Ford next week.

Production data is subject to revisions. For this presentation, I used data gathered from the following sources:

  • Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection
  • FracFocus.org
