For your comment to be resoundingly cutting would necessitate you had a different solution to that taken by European nations and if it were a continuation of the previous electricity generating regime you would have Europe with assets that are no longer cost effective on a watt for watt basis and these would become massive loss making stranded assets.

Ah - we finally reach your crux in this😁

Climate is a big driver. Additional benefits include local air pollution and the other biggie - energy security. For net energy importers wind (and solar) offer some opportunity to reduce reliance on imports and create some local jobs.
