Since 1989 more than 35 mayor armed conflicts have been financed by natural resources. It seems to me how natural resources  are reason for a conflict, rather than for cooperation.

Someone wrote "water". We have last example from Africa. Water is hot potato in many parts of the Africa, especially  in triangle: Egypt, Sudan and Ethiopia. They have no consensus over sharing Nile's water.  Failure to reach agreement could lead conflict and endanger regional security.

You have colonialism in Africa.  Maybe they were stopped from eating each other in some countries, but generally they took natural resources and rob these poor countries.
