Uber CEO sees commercialization of flying taxis within a decade

Recommended Posts

Uber CEO said it expects flying vehicles to eventually become an affordable method of mass transportation within a decade. Dara Khosrowshahi said that Uber and Fort Worth-based Bell Helicopter are working to launch an air taxi service in Dallas-Fort Worth.

The company had previously introduced its plans for an air-taxi service in 2016 as part of white paper detailing the company’s vision for the commercialization of mass air transit. The plan relies on the development of smaller, electric helicopter-style vehicles that can be used to transport riders from the suburbs into cities, or as a way to avoid city congestion altogether. Such plans would still need authorization from the Federal Aviation Administration.

Most people don't even seem to know how to drive their terrestrial cars safely and they are talking about Uber modular moon bases

Technically it can be done. Logistics supporting it will doom it. When cost climb above current trip price who will use it? Who insures it? Who will drive it...Can't imagine person finishing shift in Taco Bell and flying helicopter

How do you regulate air travel with thousands of taxis. Seems to me that it would be cheaper to fly Delta

what about the infrastructure for this? sure, it's airborne, but it can't be an airborne free-for-all.

In 1930's we were promised personal jet packs. Once we get those we'll talk air taxis.

Good to know. Not sure I have the time to get suited up for it whenever I need a taxi, but very cool nonetheless...

Talk doesn't cost anything, let them dream and share their dreams. It's fun. or not, since I imagined the current jams growing along more than one plane. Pun unintended. No, thanks.
