Koch Brothers Try to Kill gas tax

Recommended Posts

Koch Brothers crying about the 25-cent gas tax, saying it would unfairly burden Trump states. Isn't a gas tax a tax on ... well, gas? And isn't the gas you put into your vehicle directly tied to the number of miles you drive? So how is it an "unfair" burden on anyone? Am I missing something here?

The Koch brothers are putting tons of money and effort into ensuring a Republican win and strongly believe that Trump is going to jeopardize that win for them. These guys are far scarier than Trump. They spent $20 million to sell the tax overhaul to the American republic (rallies, advertising, etc). And that's just chump change compared to what else they've spent on other 'issues'. Behind the scenes, if these guys don't want a gas tax, it's probably not going to happen.

that totally makes sense. Politicians doing things not because it makes sense but because it will get them elected, or in this case, because the party wants to stay in office. But that's how this works. Stop worrying about your next term and do some good with the one you have.

Bit overly idealistic. It is what it is. Just like NRA decides what's going to get banned and Florida students don't have a clue what they're up against, gas tax won't get anywhere unless it benefits the behind-the-scenes lobbyists who really control everything. I think this whole conversation about whether 'Trump' will push through a gas tax or not is completely irrelevant. He has no real sway in the matter.
