Elon Musk Steps Down From OpenAI Board to Dodge “Potential Future Conflict”

Recommended Posts

In 2015, Elon Musk co-founded nonprofit AI research company OpenAI. Now, he is leaving OpenAI's board of directors due to a potential future conflict of interest.  Musk’s departure from the OpenAI board is intriguing, not so much for what it might mean for OpenAI’s future, but for Tesla’s. The given reason of “a potential future conflict for Elon” could signal that Tesla is more deeply committed to their own AI projects than we thought.

His views on AI are probably different from those represented in Open AI. They had ambiguities in the past.

He's stepping down just because he wants to work on AI in Tesla. After all, Musk currently has a contract with Tesla that encourages him to involve more. He's only doing what is appropriate.

He's just trying to avoid issues here. If Tesla uses AI tech from OpenAI to make money, that's unethical. But by leaving OpenAI Musk is avoiding a conflict of interest here.

What conflict of interest? We are talking about OpenAI. Open. That means anything made can be used by anyone. Maybe Musk is just moving to the opposite direction than OpenAI.
