Marina Schwarz + 1,576 March 8, 2018 "A team of Chinese engineers has developed a hybrid solar cell that can produce electricity come rain or shine, using the triboelectric effect to harvest energy from the movement of raindrops on its surface." Pretty cool.
CMOP + 227 March 8, 2018 It could find eventual practical uses in harvesting energy from movement or vibrations through clothing, car wheels, floors, or touchscreens.
J Owens + 45 March 9, 2018 I recently read in Sapiens by Yuval Noah Harari that in just 90 minutes the earth receives 500 exajoules from the sun - equivalent to the annual energy consumption of all humans and industries in the world. I know that there are obvious flaws in that comparison - but it does give some insight into the potential of these solar technologies in 10 or 20 years time if this progress continues.... Exciting times.
