Google Will Ban All Ads Tied to Cryptocurrencies

This ban will start in June this year. Google will ban ads for unregulated or speculative financial products like binary options, cryptocurrency and financial spread betting among others. The policy will be implemented across its platforms, including Facebook, Audience Network and Instagram.

Wow. I'm not a big crypto fan but this seems like a big deal. I understand Google not wanting it not to be delegitimized, but is a bit drastic. So far, these are the current prohibitions on Google for ads:

Counterfeit goods

Dangerous products or services

Enabling dishonest behavior

Inappropriate content (which I realize is vague, ,but in Google's words, this means "shocking content or promote hatred, intolerance, discrimination, or violence."

Not sure which category crypto would fall under.

These adds are annoying anyway. Every time I log in my laptop and suddenly got at least 10 popup adds from bitcoin. I like bitcoin but no need for these adds. I know where to find it if I want.

Well, Bitcoin did survive similar ban from Facebook. Now together with Google they accounted more than 60% of digital ad spending in last year. But still no signs that Google will harm bitcoin with this. Great article about this
