At the end of the day, Hong Kong is sovereign Chinese territory, and they will do with it as they will.

That said, China does not operate in a vacuum and every decision they make will have consequences on the world stage. Every other sovereign has a right to react as they see fit.

I would expect most Western countries will pull out of Hong Kong, it’s position as a global financial hub will no longer be tenable, and the city state will be a ghost town in 3-5 years.

Taiwan will be following this issue closely and will realize that they cannot believe a single thing that the CCP says. This will push Taiwan to seek independence.

The ultimate losers will be the people of Hong Kong who could not leave.
