Supreme Court drops DOJ case against Microsoft

The Supreme Court dropped from its docket a case that examined whether emails and other data stored overseas are subject to U.S. search warrants, following new legislation from Congress saying they are. Microsoft had been battling the US Justice Department in court for years, fighting against a government order to hand over data stored on foreign servers.

Looks like a won for Microsoft but Congress has passed legislation allowing investigators to obtain electronic data that technology companies store anywhere in the world

Right, the case is moot because legislation passed by Congress allows investigators to search international information and don't need the court's approval anymore.

so this all started with a drug trafficking investigation and the person of interest store his email on Microsoft servers in Ireland? I this in cases like this, Microsoft should hand over the info

or government should just hack those email. I am sure they are able to
