Fifty - fifty: Ford Sales Down 4.7%, Fiat Chrysler up 5% In April

Ford Motor Co. sold 204,650 vehicles in April, down 4.7 percent from the same month last year, as new vehicle sales for Fiat Chrysler Automobiles NV increased 5 percent in April. Both the Ford and Lincoln brand posted decreases in April, down 4.3 percent and 12.1 percent respectively. Only the Dearborn-based automaker's trucks posted an increase in sales last month, up nearly 1 percent on a 3.5 percent gain for the F-Series and a 4.5 percent increase for the Ford Transit.....

As I read the numbers, trucks sell, cars don’t. Are we leaving ourselves open to higher gas prices because we drive gas guzzlers again? Seems as I’ve seen this movie before. Trouble is we are giving up car production in this country now. This truck economy doesn’t seem viable.

It's always results of some strategy and situation on market.  It will be interesting to watch. When gas prices spike next, buyers will have a lot of fuel efficient SUV's to choose.It will be interesting to see if they choose those, or go back to cars.

Ford is shedding its car lineup
US auto sales drop 8%
GM is cutting 1500 jobs.
