The Hill does no such thing. It quotes unnamed sources with "knowledge" from other sources who may or may not have been in the same room as something that may or may not have happened. That rag is useless. They'll be quoting off the men's bathroom stalls next, calling it gospel. 20 people dying over the course of a year in a warzone like Afghanistan can't be attributed to anything much less rumor mongers. Lindsey has the intestinal fortitude of Jello. Never expect anything from him. Like McCain before him, Lindsey figured out that if he wants face time on the national news, he only has to disagree with the Republican majority. The MSM laps that trick up, with the added bonus that they can pretend they've covered both sides of an issue, the DNC side and the one that agrees with the DNC.

Let's put some bold lettering on The Hill's "facts", shall we? A Russian military unit secretly sought to offer rewards to Taliban-linked militants to incentivize them to hunt and kill coalition forces in Afghanistan as the Trump administration engaged in peace talks to end the nearly two-decade long war, U.S. intelligence officials have reportedly concluded. The New York Times, citing officials briefed on the matter, reported Friday that the U.S. intelligence apparatus has known for months about the alleged efforts of the Russian military intelligence unit, which reportedly provided rewards to militants for successful attacks last year. U.S. troops were among the targeted coalition forces, according to the Times, which reported that some militants or associated entities are believed to have received reward money. While 20 Americans died last year in combat in Afghanistan, it is unclear how many — or which specific cases — are linked to the killing bounties, the newspaper reported. President Trump and other intelligence officials on the National Security Council reportedly discussed the matter in a meeting in late March, where they weighed a series of potential responses. However, no formal steps have been made, the Times reported. The newspaper's sources said they were unclear why there has been a delay. The motivations of the Russian intelligence unit's alleged efforts are also unclear. Some officials theorized the efforts could be to destabilize the West or take revenge for pro-Syria forces being killed when advancing on an American outpost in 2018, or keep the U.S. tied up in a war in Afghanistan by thwarting peace talks, according to the Times. Still, such actions would mark a major escalation of Russian support of the Taliban and an attempt to turn violence onto coalition forces. It would also mark an escalation of Russia's actions toward the U.S., following its efforts to sow discord during the 2016 U.S. presidential election, during which the Kremlin used disinformation campaigns on social media platforms and cyberattacks to amplify an already divisive race. The Kremlin has not officially commented on the reports, saying that they will do so if they see the U.S. make accusations. The Department of Defense and CIA declined to comment on the Times story. NSC and the State Department also declined to comment. “We do not comment on alleged NSC internal deliberations," NSC spokesman John Ullyot told The Hill. The officials described the intelligence to the Times as a “closely held secret,” but the small group with knowledge of the covert attack expanded this week after the British government, which was also targeted, was briefed on the matter. Discovery of Russia’s alleged actions also comes as the White House and the country grapples with a growing crisis from the coronavirus pandemic, with cases surging in a number of states. The officials also told the Times they are unclear how high up orders went in the Russian government, but said it appears to be part of Russia’s military intelligence agency, the G.R.U., known as Unit 29155. This unit reportedly is filled with highly experienced military officials, some dating back to the Soviet Union days, and their actions tend to be more violent than actions like cyberattacks. The unit is believed to be behind the poisoning of Sergei Skripal, a former G.R.U. officer who defected. Skripal and his daughter were poisoned with a nerve agent in England in 2018. Trump has generally sought to maintain an accommodating relationship with Russia, including recently seeking to invite Russian President Vladimir Putin to an expanded meeting of the Group of 7 countries. He has also previously indicated that he believed Putin’s denial about interfering in the 2016 election, despite his own intelligence community’s conclusions. Trump has long sought to bring an end to the war in Afghanistan, seeking to negotiate a peace agreement with the Taliban, particularly ahead of November’s presidential election.

ronwagn + 6,290 June 29, 2020 On 6/26/2020 at 11:05 PM, Jan van Eck said: I really don't see what the big hullabaloo is about Mr. Biden being senile. Mental capacity is not a job requirement for being President of the USA; for example, I point to Mr. (Ronald) Reagan, who was profoundly incompetent for the last two years of his presidency (and his wife Nancy effectively ran the White House, with the aid of her astrologer). Seems to have worked, more or less. What folks are missing, and especially here, is that the US Executive Branch is a gigantic bureaucracy, which runs along on its own steam like some lumbering ox. There is very little that any President does or even could do to deflect it off its course, which is self-energizing. Under US Law even the authority of the Executive to curtail specific programs or Departments is circumscribed by Congress; it has now limited (and effectively stopped) the ability of the President to do "Impoundment" of allocated funds, so when the Congress votes money for the bureaucrats, the Executive has little choice but to go spend it. Mr. Trump came on deck with the campaign platform and promise to "drain the swamp," by which was meant to curtail the bureaucracy. The logical way to do that would be to shut down entire departments. Precisely nothing has happened. No bureaucrats have been sacked. Federal staffing is just as large as before, and probably has increased, although nobody even really knows any more mow many people are on the Federal payroll. That said, the numbers are staggeringly vast. And entire Federal programs are effectively funded with blank cheques. The Congress votes a continuing resolution, say to fund an Aircraft Carrier over several years, or to fund social security for an indefinite time, and the bureaucracy decides how to administer that. Nobody stops working at fiscal year-end on that aircraft carrier: the workmen keep working, and the Navy keeps paying, and budget be damned. The more crucial elements in the next election contest, and after, is: who will get a stroke first? Mr. Trump is over-weight, with a body mass index of at least 28, so he is a candidate for a stroke. If it is big enough, and that is easy to imagine considering the stresses of the job, then he goes into forced retirement, and whomever is Vice President, presumably Mr. Pence, takes over. That I view as an ominous prospect: Mr. Pence actually knows how the Congress works and he can and will lead the USA into a path of sustained ultra-right-wing politics, and I shudder to think about where that leads the nation. Pence will sacrifice your personal freedoms on his altar of State Control, which specifically will include Control over personal movement by the NSA and ancillary agencies. He can and will sacrifice your personal freedoms, and I see no effective check on that power, given that the Congress is totally sclerotic and has abdicated its role and authority. Meanwhile, It is apparent that Mr. Biden will be unable to effectively manage the Executive in any cognizable way. So then the question becomes: who will really be running things? Who will be the "power behind the throne?" And the answer to that is our old friend Hillary, and her Clintonites. She understands how the White House works, she understands how the Senate works (remember, she was a Senator from New York State), and she has Bill as her wing-man. So it becomes another Clinton White House, minus the sex distractions this time around. And those are your prospects, folks. Don't expect either Party to change course; is not going to happen. Your ship is on a collision course with history. Jan, I think you have this totally backwards. You actually think that V.P. Pence would limit liberties when the exact opposite is true. He is a constitutionalist conservative fully endorsing and supporting our freedoms. The Demoncrats don't care much for our liberties. Most of them now want total control of the American people. All you have to do is look at how Obama and his crew took over the executive departments and immediately went after conservatives through the IRS, The Injustice Department including the FBI, and whatever they could through all departments and means. Obama also appointed unconstitutional overseers over each department. The congress and journalists were spied upon and the CIA installed employees at major newspapers and fed them with all sorts of information which the same people have continued to do. You seem to have little concern over these realities. For about four years President Trump has fought against the Deep State, 90%of the media, the universities and professors, the largest foundations, the crony capitalists, Hollywood, Silicon Valley, etc. They started attacking him after they decided he was a serious threat to their plans for globalism. I think you are a globalist and think that the elites should run the world. I consider you an elitist although I greatly respect you. I am a commoner and worked my way up to the upper half of the middle class from a very poor background. I thank God for President Trump and pray for his second term.
