China itself as its official public position declared the country a civilian military unity to achieve its military goals which include specific items threatening to all countries, and it continues its campaign of intimidation and bribery to shut down the voicing of opposing and critical opinions outside of China. Thus it is an existential threat to humanity at large, not only its own people. Those are things that are causes of war. Trump has actually been an obstacle to the US dealing with China properly because of his hope to secure a mutually beneficial trade arrangement. Once it became clear that China uses trade as a military strategic tool, what remains is to detach from the CCP's avenues of conducting war. Meaning, trade - particularly technology, diplomatic contact and financial flows. So long as any of those serve a CCP military strategic aim, they simply should not be. 

If you want China to do well then do your part to disenfranchise the CCP and dismantle its power structure. Help your people before the CCP leads them to an outright shooting war.

re Trade.  uh, why would Trump sign 'phase 1' if it were not beneficial to the US?  China has not banned any US company in China, nor ordered any US company to sell its assets at a fire sale: yet, Trump has done so to Chinese companies in the US. so who threatens whom?

re military.  read General Smedly, war is a racket. He outlines clearly why and how the US uses its CIA and military to threaten, invade, sanction, and beat other countries into submission. To date the list is very long: all of Central and South America; Africa; south east Asia; Balkans; Middle East. China has not attacked any country. so who threatens whom?

You know nothing of Diego Garcia?  It was never US sovereign territory, yet the US used it for nuclear testing. Literally destroying and radiating it for the next 1000 years. Complete murder of the indigenous people. China has never done similar. so who threatens whom?
