Later he tried to say that he said nothing like that, and when confronted with the recording, he said: "I will be correct... eventually" by which he probably meant that eventually the virus will be gone and he will thus be right, but his statement "the virus will be gone by Easter" will remain forever false. Another example - Trump suggested to treat the virus with disinfectant injections and UV light. Later, he tried to lie stating that he was only joking when replying to a journalist, but was quickly confronted with a recording proving otherwise. In a normal, healthy society, this constant lying could never be acceptable. Rationally thinking individuals understand that they should not trust someone who constantly lie, because it's probable that they are also being lied to, it's very simple. However, because Trump followers operate like a cult and blindly accept everything he babbles out (while he really does not think about it much, he does not know anything, does not study or prepare, and what he says is stuff he mostly saw in TV the other night), these nonsenses are parroted ad absurdum (hydrochloroquine), and then conveniently forgotten.
