Flaring I can understand, but venting? Unless it's some kind of stripper well, you'll just be asking for trouble to vent natural gas (the fuel) into the atmosphere (the oxygen) where you only need a spark to go boom!

The folks in Santa Fe really have no clue of the oil industry in the far southern part of the state. "Feel Good Laws" will only up the price of oil and as a former rough-neck outta Lovington, NM the state has gone more socialist in the last 35 yrs after I left because you could see how their ideas weren't in line with the rest of the nation, 'cept Kalifornia.

Albuquerque with over 600K residents put more noxious fumes in the air than S.E. NM oil fields.

We had that almost happen yesterday.  The fuel company uses diesel to a point then switches over to NG.  The battery failed so the system's safety features released the NG into air on location, and luckily people paid attention and all was shut down before that spark happened.
