I appreciate the verse in Chapter 1:11 of EV Nutz says, "Though winter rules at minus 20 below, crashes happen, plugging roadways for hours on end, we shall fear no cold temps and drained batteries for the Lord of EV's is on our side and will magically not run out of battery power becoming a roadblock to all other traffic!" And no, you do not have an alternative power source. In a desert, maybe, everywhere else? No.

Desert in states of Rajasthan and Gujarat are providing cheapest Solar and winter power because of lowest land cost and highest availability of solar radiation and wind!

Ah, yes, the magical sun... except when it is not magical as it is behind the clouds. Good times. India, land of ~4th or 5th most hydro power potential in the world yet collects nearly none of it with plans to develop nearly none of it... Wind well under 20% capacity factor using modern wind turbines in its best locations and is completely 100% seasonal where rest of year you get zero... holy crap that is bad. Solar: ~5 hours average per day... Under 2000 hours average per year in best locations. Except that tiny problem the sun does not shine for ~2 months during cyclone season.... Holy Shit that is merely ~~~ok. Not good, not China/Germany horrific, but not good enough to be economical either. When are you invading Pakistan for their solar again?

We consider is was and will be part of India. we have 330 days of clear sunshine throughout india. and more in desert regions. we are not affected much by cyclones like in other countries. We also have huge potential in coming decade from 36% renewable share presently to 70 percent in 10 years time.

footeab@yahoo.com + 2,190 January 4, 2021 11 hours ago, Hiten Shah said: whysolar http://www.sunwattindia.com/whysolar.html Let me quote your own link... which they carefully did Horizontal irradiance... instead of NORMAL irradiance which I gave link to/quoted. BIG difference. "India varies from 4 to 7 kWh/m2 with about 1500–2000 sunshine hours per year" So, India average 4 hours a day with its best location being 5.5 hours a day using SOLAR TRACKING!!! That is horrific. Why Horizontal verses Normal matters: 1) Horizontal is only useful if you use solar tracking. 2) Normal is useful if you are making a roof, or accounting for more realistic wear and tear on solar tracking/length of life. Lets put this in perspective: With Solar tracking, Australia, Middle East, Sahara, Chili, Mexico/SW USA, South Africa/Namibia can AVERAGE all year long, nearly 10-->12 hours a day. So, same $$$ invested, 2X greater base output. So, power for the stated reasons when you account for maintenance, NPV of $$$, is around 3X--4X cheaper in those locations using solar power... And batteries are still not counted in the $$$ required for stability. Having to back up 20 hours a day instead of only 12 hours a day is ANOTHER 2X cost multiplier. In short, Solar in India is at least 6X more expensive than the best areas of the world. Another way of saying, most of the world has better solar potential than India with the exceptions being the tropics, SE Asia, Russia, Canada, Europe which is still ~50% of humanity. If even ONE of these countries tries to go all electric as planned we do not have enough Nickel mines etc in the world. Yet we are to play make believe ALL of them will... Uh huh. Do pull the other leg. This is nothing but the Kyoto joke agreement and the Paris Joke Agreement.
footeab@yahoo.com + 2,190 January 4, 2021 One thing which will be all electric in less than 10 years will be delivery vans. A guaranteed range driven maximum as this range is completely dependent on how quickly guys can fill a van, get out to a destination, and deliver packages and then pick up packages. Likewise it is a guarantee you will not be using them at night so downtime of ~12 hours if not more is guaranteed in which to charge. If you want low hanging fruit, start there in your dreams of electrification. Same can be said of Garbage trucks. Guaranteed maximum range, high start stop operation. Fill those millions of vehicle needs and then work at everything else. But no, the utopians are demanding the application of the hardest aspect of transportation first.... idiots. If I could buy shares in a nickel mine I liked, I would do so in a flash. I will have to settle for Copper mines instead. 2
