Wyoming Lawmakers try new ways to block coal plant closures

This could be problematic.

And as one commenter said:

"Taking over a coal-fired power plant and operating it as a state-operated municipal utility?

REALLY???

This smacks exactly as the type of socialism conservatives and Republicans decry in their campaign rhetoric!

As a previous commenter said, “What will it take to drag the Wyoming legislature into the 21st century,” regardless of the kicking and screaming?

I am 72 years old , a Wyoming native.

Within the next 20 years, ” Coal-Fired Powerplant” will be  categorized as Alternative Energy.

Seems the newest coal plant in the entire country shouldn't be shut down first, but that's just me. California villainizes Wyoming for its dirty power, right up until they're dying in a heat wave in the summer and there's no wind and the PV installations are too hot to produce reliably. Just like England pretending it's all green power while they're buying gigawatts of dirty coal from the continent.

Coal is cheap and plentiful, You have to be an idiot to be against it! If we can land on Mars, Deploying a drone, Fire a laser, can anyone NOT BELIEVE we can use coal cleaner!

Wyoming's governor simply needs to shut down Cali, it is time to quit tiptoeing around these political obstacles. It is time to leave a rather large imprint, things are becoming quite serious.

It is difficult to keep up with coal plant retirements across the nation.

One of the culprits is not only politically motivated environmental concerns, but the switch to cheaper fuel (nat gas).  Some coal plants are being converted to nat gas, as well (if they are close to a pipeline).  Not only is the cost/MBTU lower, the railroads loose their transportation stranglehold.

Quite a few older units I supported have been converted to synchronous condenser duty.

Yes i do understand what you are saying, It would seem everything Obama and his administration touched fundamentally just "Jibber Wrapped" this nation. It would seem electrical grids are merely a hodge podge of some type of graduate genius penned on paper and threw it against the wall to see if it would stick....What is left would be the mess after it slid to floor and splattered.

Obama was a cruel SOB, he led millions of children down the path of a higher education spending small fortunes to obtain a social arts degree...and then he topped it off with a high interest loan that is not dischargeable...they own it for life and no way out.

Dumped billion and billions into health care and the system is a over bloated pig that cannot even carry its own weight...

Ok i feel just smidge better...then there is the true source of global pollution...How 16 ships pollute more oil that all the auto's in the world combined...there are now over 150,000 ships in the merchant fleet..That number reflects 4000 times more pollution than the worlds autos....

Eyes Wide Open, thanks for uncovering this ship pollution problem. I have been aware of the bunker fuel problem for a few years, but never grasped the scale of the problem? I have been pushing for natural gas to be the major ship fuel for several years though.

I am continually surprised by the fact that the most important issues in pollution are overlooked and hidden in plain sight for anyone who can see.

I wonder how bunker ship fuel compares to coal use in Asia and how much bunker sludge is just dumped in the ocean. Also what the effects are on the ocean ecology. We talk about plastic particles all the time but the bunker fuel pollution is a far larger problem. Hopefully more will be done to focus on this issue.

From January 2020, ships must use fuel with a sulfur content of 0.5%, down from 3.5%, or install devices, known as scrubbers, that strip out the toxic pollutant.

As a result, refiners and shipping companies will spend billions of dollars in the years ahead on ensuring fuel and engines comply.

Your hodgepodge comes from 50 states with different regulations. A Republican tradition. Right?  You want the Federal government to enforce one set of rules for all? I didn’t think so. So our system has a guaranteed inefficient system in multiple areas. It is what it is.
So you would cut off Calif electricity because of Federal clean air regulations. Would you also install a president that lost an election? Is the FBI gonna look for you next? 😂

We already have a federal system. Look up FERC and get back to me. The feds control Every grid, except Texas. Trust me, they are itching to take over Texas next.

As for installing a president who lost an election? That just happened. Nationwide there's 133 million registered voters but magically 165 million votes in this election. Note that I said votes not voters.

Pretty simple Boat, Caifornia leadership/ braintrust needs to be in compliance with there own needs and not a reliant welfare state.

Now I could post a incenderary commentary eluding to begging/gladhanding might be in order here. That time has not yet come.

Now you are claiming they are only 133 million registered voters? ha ha ha another  low IQ claim brought  by Ward.

lemme guess, you asked the same Politifact that claimed Trump was lying when he stated that Biden was going to ban fracking? Haha haha

You'll find sources that magically appeared immediately after the numbers got out, but intelligent people (among whom you clearly don't belong) have parsed it quite a bit further.
