Roch + 537 DR April 2, 2021 (edited) Note there has been an increase in Covid infections and deaths in various hotspots around the world. The "Experts" have never been up front with the people when it came to this virus . . . . at least in the U.S. They tell us not to worry about the South Africa and U.K. variant (aka mutations). BUT IT'S THE ONES THEY DON'T TELL YOU ABOUT OR TELL YOU VERY LITTLE ABOUT. The BRAZILIAN VARIANT. THAT'S A HORSE OF A DIFFERENT COLOR. Brazil initially did quite well with the original strain of the virus. Recently , there have been huge increase in infections and deaths across Brazil. * It seems previously infected during Covid Patients do not have immunity from the new Brazil variant. One can easily get infected again. * The Brazil variant transmits much easier and faster. * The Brazil variant is more deadly that the original strain. * The Brazil and South African variants are prevalent in younger adults and teenagers * Whereas the current vaccines seem effective against the South African and U.K. variants they are not so with the Brazil variant. * The Brazil variant has been detected in 16 U.S. States And to add to the deleima a Second Brazilian variant was discovered last week. No information available yet. We all hope for the best. However, we might have a ways to go. Edited April 2, 2021 by Roch
waltz + 140 EW April 3, 2021 (edited) I try to stay well informed about Cenral/South America, not specifically about Covid; would you mind citing sources for line items A and E. I had not seen that yet. waltz Edited April 3, 2021 by waltz
turbguy + 1,543 April 3, 2021 (edited) Viruses mutate. A LOT! One patient in the UK, where they do a LOT of genetic monitoring (genomic surveillance), found at least 10 variants arising and falling in just ONE patient (who was immune compromised) over 100 days of treatment. They treated with Remdesivir, and one variant would plummet, while another variant arose. They treated with convalescent plasma, and a different variant would arise. The doctors were watching evolution in real time. They were astounded! This virus is tricky, and clever. It competes with itself for "real estate" within the body. The patient passed. The "experts" are still learning. It ain't over... https://www.theatlantic.com/science/archive/2021/03/massive-global-hunt-variants-under-way/618230/ For better "entertainment" value, listen to this Radiolab podcast. For those unfamiliar with Radiolab, it's a mix between "60 Minutes" and sound design equal to "The Firesign Theatre" (eg, "I Think We're all Bozos on This Bus", "government-inflicted simulation", "If you push something hard enough, it will fall over", "What comes in, must go out", "Why does the porridge bird lay his egg in the air?", what phrases!). https://www.wnycstudios.org/podcasts/radiolab/articles/dispatch-14-covid-crystal-ball Edited April 3, 2021 by turbguy
