To continue, underground or elevated tracks bring with them their own risks.

Underground or elevation makes it difficult to escape the train when accidents happen (and they will).

Underground tunnels can have accumulation of toxic and/or flammable gases, there have been many disasters. Some very recent.

By initiating a costly reduction of oil and natural gas permits the Biden & Co. folks have declared war on the standard of living of average and lower income Americans, and now the election polls have turned negative against the climate alarmists for those reasons....the very people who voted Biden into office are the principal victims of the anti-oil policies being touted by the administration.

That is like biting the hand that feeds you, and it comes at a heavy political cost.

"Lack of enough pipelines means a cap on gas production and, by extension, on LNG exports, not to mention domestic gas supply. Per the industry, this threatens the energy security of Americans.

Amid these controversial energy policies, Biden's approval rating has plummeted, with the decline especially notable among groups that four years ago were firmly in the Democrat camp, such as Black Americans and Hispanics, per a recent poll from USA Today and Suffolk University. Energy policies are not the only reason, but they are a big reason."

The explosion was from the oil.  Yes, it was a rail accident but once again the death and destruction was from the oil.  If that train was full of grain do you think the destruction would have been the same?  Of course not.

Furthermore, according your "logic" none of the other disasters would be due to oil either.  After all the oil itself didn't cause the spills, it's the tankers, pipelines, rigs, etc. that fail.  Try to understand that without the oil operations there would be no accidents involving oil, ever.

You just punch keyboard and spew garbage. You personally moron can't live without oil. Quit yer bitchin' as rational thinkers here have done proved you obviously don't understand the significance of OIL in todays modern world. So try walking, throw your car keys in the river and sell the car. Now remove all the insulation in the house/apartment you live in and heat with renewable wood. Carpet on the floors? Rip that crap out and go tile.......but only organic. Only eat organic foods. Let see how your Canadian Goverment helps you to transition to a NON-Fossil Fuel auto, home appliances, and can't even ride a bike unless you find one without rubber tires. Silly Wabbit, Oil is so much in your life and you belittle us that use it daily for some of us actually work for money. Good luck with the mission to live petrol free!!!

I understand the value of oil.  It's really cold here right now, I appreciate the natural gas.

You can't understand that all oil accidents happen because of oil.  Just because it is nice to have oil and gas products does not give the industry a free pass to kill people and poison the earth. A necessary evil, maybe, but just because it is currently necessary does that make it less evil?

Answer the question posed: "If that train was full of grain do you think the destruction would have been the same?"  Speak up!

Couple FYIs

"Organic tile?" Have you ever heard of stones? Totally inorganic and not made of oil nor is oil needed.  Maybe look up things like Roman roads or Egyptian pyramids.  Hardwood is nice. If you want a carpet like flooring you can use fur rugs.

It's also really funny you think rubber comes from oil. Natural rubber predated modern petrochemicals by a long shot.

What is not amusing is people saying Lac-Mégantic was not a disaster or saying it was not related to oil. Show some respect for the dead.

Of course, those climate agitators who complain the loudest against fossil fuels are the same individuals who scream their protests and then jump into their old polluting fossil fuel SUVs and drive home to their oil and natural gas furnaces.

Too funny for words.

Here is what is happening as Biden declares economic war against those who voted for him last time. Trying to take away the American family transportation has exposed the shallow political sloganeering.

https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/politics/elections/2024/01/01/biden-trump-poll-odds-black-hispanic-young-voters/72072111007/

"Biden now claims the support of just 63% of Black voters, a precipitous decline from the 87% he carried in 2020, according to the Roper Center. He trails among Hispanic voters by 5 percentage points, 39%-34%; in 2020 he had swamped Trump among that demographic group 2 to 1, 65%-32%.

And among voters under 35, a generation largely at odds with the GOP on issues such as abortion access and climate change, Trump now leads 37%-33%. Younger voters overwhelmingly backed Biden in 2020."

Do you drive? Take meds, or even dress in anything other than 100% cotton, which also uses by-products of oil to help it grow. Almost everything in everyday lives uses OIL. Get over bashing it as your being a hypocrite/no possible way to live in todays society without oil. Get educated before you hit the keyboard. Inquiring minds wanna know how you get by without a car, shampoo, plastics etc. Teach us all how to live without oil please.

I'm not bashing it ffs

The context was "is an oil spill worse than an offshore wind turbine falling over?" and yes it is however which way you look at it.

I understand oil and petrochemicals arent going away any time soon and yes of course i drive and wear clothes and eat food. ECO forgets the context and then goes off on a tangent and you all jump in when it had nothing to do with is oil good or bad.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) today announced that an estimated 42,795 people died in traffic crashes in the United States in 2022 – down 0.3% from the year before. That's an average of 117 people dying on our roads every single day last year.20 Apr 2023

Railroad deaths totaled 954 in 2022, an 11% increase from the 2021 revised total of 859 and the highest since 2007. Nonfatal injuries totaled 6,252, a 6% increase from the 2021 revised total of 5,882. From 2021 to 2022, fatalities at highway-rail crossings increased 16%, while fatalities involving other types of incidents increased 9%. The latter included 651 deaths (96%) attributed to trespassers. Ten employees were killed while on duty, slightly down from the 2021 total of 11. There were seven train passenger deaths, up from six deaths in 2021.
The ratio of railroad-related deaths to nonfatal injuries and illnesses is about 1:7. In 2022, of the total 954 deaths, 29% occurred at rail-crossings. Of the 3,243 nonfatal occupational railroad injuries and illnesses reported in 2022, 73 were attributed to highway-rail crossing incidents.

We cant put all roads underground now can we.
However modern cars now have lane assist, collision assist etc to help reduce human error.

uh hem, computer control corridors will drastically drop accident rate.  No one has done it and it is STUPID to not have done so by now.  Computer control happened in the aviation industry and it is the safest by FAR. Japan computerized control of their trains and it is the safest by FAR.  Same goes for Highways at minimum.  No, going the TESLA route via "self driving" will not solve the problem.  We have had the tech for at least 30 years now and have REFUSED to implement it.  Will solve a LARGE portion.  STROADS in USA are a big problem for car/truck pedestrian problems and just need to be completely removed.  Solutions exist for the majority... nothing being done.  Government is NEVER proactive.  Unfortunately they hold the power and right of ways and private people cannot overcome it.  Why we need to abort fed gov purse control to state roads.

You think these luddites are going to turn over control of their cars?  Are they going retrofit their gas guzzlers with these expensive computer control systems?  Give up speeding? LOL I don't think so.

A coordinated computer control corridor requires all the vehicles in the corridor too have the system to work  (100%).  One manually driven car on the road defeats the technology.  It also requires that all the vehicles are well serviced so the computer can predict behaviour.  Couple cars with bald tires or bad brakes, once again the system fails.  Furthermore, if communication breaks down briefly for even a few cars, once again total system failure.

Airplane autopilot systems do not give control of the plane to a system not on board, and it can be turned off.  They are much more like self driving cars.

Are you going to remove all the stroads at the same time as making tunnels for all the trains? :) The USA can barely maintain its current setup (old bridges etc.).

You've got some really funny pie in the sky ideas.  Keep up the entertainment.

Wind power industry in moment of reckoning as stocks fall and earnings crumble

PUBLISHED MON, NOV 13 20231:14 AM EST

Manufacturing faults, most notably at Siemens Energy’s wind turbine subsidiary Siemens Gamesa, have emerged as companies race to build turbines at a greater pace and scale.

The problems at Gamesa led Siemens Energy to scrap its profit forecast earlier this year, and last month the company sought guarantees of up to 15 billion euros ($16 billion) from the German government.

But Siemens Gamesa, once considered the future growth driver for Siemens Energy, has become a millstone around the group's neck after deeper-than-expected wind turbine quality issues were disclosed in June. The business is expected to post a 2 billion operating loss in 2024.

Show me this 100 billion bailout.

FYI dirty energy companies screw up all the time and post losses.   The problem was manufacturing faults due to rushing, not the end of the transition.

Deep water horizon was a 61.6 billion expense and that was a single event.

German budget crisis strikes at heart of the Greens’ ambitions

Voiced by artificial intelligence.

KARLSRUHE, Germany — Germany's Greens thought their moment had finally come.

After successive crises — the pandemic and the skyrocketing energy prices that followed Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine — it seemed time to double down on the party’s core mission: what party leaders call the “social-ecological” transformation of Germany’s market economy.

For the Greens, who govern in the country’s tripartite ruling coalition with the center-left Social Democrats (SPD) and the fiscally conservative Free Democrats (FDP), the stakes of that transformation could hardly be greater.

The green-energy transition would not only help Germany, the world’s 11th largest emitter of greenhouse gases in 2022, to meet the country's ambitious goal of cutting emissions by at least 65 percent compared to 1990 levels by the end of the decade. It would make Germany an example to the rest of the world for how industry and consumers could prosper by embracing the vast societal changes needed to avoid a climate catastrophe.

But then, last month, Germany’s top court handed down a ruling that effectively stripped the ruling coalition of the full financial firepower it needs to make those ambitions a reality.

The bombshell ruling by Germany's Constitutional Court blew a €60 billion hole in the country's finances, leaving the government scrambling to fill the gap. At the same time, the ruling sharply limits the government's ability to draw from special funds created to circumvent the country's constitutional debt brake, which restricts the federal deficit to 0.35 percent of GDP except in times of emergency.

These special funds were supposed to help finance several projects which are core to the Greens' agenda — such as the transition of steel plants to hydrogen energy, subsidies for battery and microchip production, and the modernization of the country’s railway network.
