The undersink INSTAHOT's typically have a small tank.

At least mine does.

So does mine.  I added more insulation to mine as it made area under sink very warm/hot.  Fiberglass + aluminum tape from heating ducts.

There has already been a knee-jerk reflexive defensive reaction to the energy crisis...and then rescinded. This is just the beginning of the pain, Biden & Co. doesn't want to shoot all their arrows in the first skirmish, the big battle is yet to come.

https://oilprice.com/Energy/Crude-Oil/Oil-Prices-Rebound-As-US-Walks-Back-Plan-To-Tap-Strategic-Petroleum-Reserve.html

"“Certainly, we all want to keep gasoline prices low, but the threat of the crisis — the climate crisis — certainly can’t wait any longer,” Psaki said, commenting on whether other governments would get ‘weak-kneed’ about going green in the face of soaring energy prices, as the world leaders are preparing for the COP26 climate summit in the UK in November. In recent months, the White House has been in contact with OPEC over the price of oil. National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan said in early August that the OPEC+ timeline for easing the cuts “is simply not enough” at a critical moment in the global recovery.    At the end of September, Psaki said “I would assure you we’re not only engaged with OPEC, we’re looking at every means we have to lower gas prices.” The OPEC+ group hasn’t heeded any calls from consuming nations and proceeded earlier this week with its plan to ease the cuts by the minimum 400,000 bpd the market expected. Meanwhile, the average U.S. gasoline price rose to the highest level since October 2014, on the back of higher crude oil prices and higher demand. As of October 7, the average U.S. gasoline price stood at $3.244 a gallon, as per AAA data.  Crude oil prices fell on Wednesday when Energy Secretary Granholm suggested that the U.S. was considering a release of crude oil from the SPR and a ban on crude exports."

Here is an example of the Government pushing the Green New Deal over the past 40 years while getting rid of the nasty old school refrigerants. Today a new fridge uses 30 KWH a month compared to 180 KWH per month in 1972. A permanent nightmare????

The Proof is in the Pudding: How Refrigerator Standards Have Saved Consumers $Billions

How your refrigerator has kept its cool over 40 years of efficiency improvements | ASAP Appliance Standard Awareness Project

Today’s refrigerators have been designed to save energy and money without detriment to capacity,
functionality, or extra features. | Image source: Building Technologies Program

What’s your favorite late night snack – that go-to treat that melts away the troubles of the day as you curl up in front of the TV? Perhaps it’s a creamy bowl of Rocky Road or maybe some delicious, spicy Szechuan chicken left over from a recent take-out feast. Refrigerator-finds like these may make you feel bad about indulging in guilty pleasures, but at least you don't have to feel bad about how high your energy bill will be to cure your cravings. That’s because of innovative technology and meaningful energy conservation standards put into place by the Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy's Building Technologies Program.

In recent decades, the Energy Department has led technological innovation that vastly improved the energy efficiency of our refrigerators and freezers (and thousands of other household appliances). As a result, it’s a lot easier on your pocket and on the environment to keep that ice cream at peak frosty perfection. In fact, today’s refrigerators use only about 25 percent of the energy that was required to power models built in 1975. Even while continually improving efficiency to meet standards, refrigerators have increased in size by almost 20 percent, have added energy-using features such as through-the-door ice, and provide more benefits than ever before. Refrigerators today can be customized to fit consumer needs with touch-screen displays, glass doors, or even a beer tap.

The dramatic rise in efficiency began in response to the oil and energy crises of the 1970s when refrigerators typically cost about $1,300 when adjusted for inflation, a hefty price to pay for an energy waster. Refrigeration labels and standards have improved efficiency by two percent per year since 1975. Due to research, useful tools, partnerships with utilities and other organizations, and market initiatives that helped enable refrigerator and other appliance standards, the Energy Department has helped avoid the construction of up to 31 1-GW power plants with the energy saved since the first Federal standards in 1987. That’s the same amount of electricity consumed by Spain annually.

The Department will soon have strengthened the standards for household refrigerators three times. Each time, manufacturers have responded with new innovations that enabled their products to meet the new requirements and often to exceed them. Refrigerators that performed above and beyond the minimum standards qualified for the ENERGY STAR label, motivated consumers to care about energy usage, and primed the market for continued efficiency improvements.

Decades worth of progressive energy-efficiency standards for refrigerators have translated into big savings for consumers. Compared to refrigerators of the 1970s, today's refrigerators save the nation about $20 billion per year in energy costs, or $150 per year for the average American family.

The next proposed increase in refrigerator and freezer efficiency -- scheduled to take effect in 2014 -- will save the nation almost four and a half quadrillion BTUs over 30 years. That’s three times more than the total energy currently used by all refrigeration products in U.S. homes annually. It’s also the equivalent amount of energy savings that could be used to power a third of Africa for an entire year

The Energy Department is continuing to invest even more in future innovations for energy efficient products. So go ahead and indulge with those late night snacks and frozen treats. Your fridge has you covered.

To learn more about Appliance Standards and how they save consumers money go to the Building Technologies Program website.

You've sold me, I will buy a refrigerator. Gas or electric?

Using some very rough numbers world green power investment the last 6 years is around 300 billion per year. Total energy investment for all energy is 1.3-1.5 trillion per year. We know around two years ago wind and solar tech finally became competitive and the preferred investment where it’s windy and the sun shines. 2021 renewable investment will be closer to 1.2 trillion globally. As some of us have talked for years about the transition is kicking into gear now that tech has caught FF. So is 1.2 trillion worth 1% of the energy market. We’ll see the numbers in a few months. Going forward I’m guessing renewable investment will keep growing.

The hardest idea to process for me is robotic trucks and cars. How many fewer vehicles will the world need. Will miles driven fall off the cliff? A lot will depend on the time and availability of a ride or supply run. How long will it take to develop that infrastructure. How much cheaper will it be to move a population.

If about everything can be delivered without a human will every surviving store be a warehouse? Just think of how much cheaper products can be eliminating hundreds of thousands of expensive building infrastructure. Heck Houston has a mattress center every 5 miles. Amazon, lumber centers and grocery store deliveries etc already enjoy massive delivery growth but that’s the tip if the iceberg.

This chart shows higher green investment. It’s hard to find comprehensive numbers. With the spike in FF prices it will be interesting to see the next 5 years.

PS, you can see the investment China has made since XI took over. It’s not insignificant as some claim.

This is the inevitable outcome when a misguided government declares war on the oil industry....oil prices rise, no surprise.

https://oilprice.com/Energy/Oil-Prices/Brent-Crude-Nears-85-As-Global-Energy-Crisis-Worsens.html

"The tighter coal and natural gas markets globally raise the outlook for gas-to-oil switch, which is set to boost oil demand. Crude oil “started the week on a strong footing as the global power crunch continues to raise expectations for higher gas-to-oil switching demand at a time where OPEC+ maintains its modest pace of oil monthly oil production increases,” Saxo Bank’s strategy team said in note on Monday. “With WTI already trading at seven-year high, Brent may now target the 2018 high at $86.74,” the bank’s analysts added. Going forward, oil prices will be forced up at an accelerating rate, as long as governments still rely on the defective climate models which ignited the current energy crisis.

https://oilprice.com/Energy/Crude-Oil/Oil-Supply-Adequate-For-Now-But-Larger-Supply-Crunch-Looms.html

"Some of those officials have already started to call for more investment in new supply, considering the long lead times in conventional projects from discovery to production. For example, Patrick Pouyanné, chief executive at France’s TotalEnergies, said at the Energy Intelligence Forum that oil prices would “rocket to the roof” by 2030 if the industry were to stop investments in new supply, as some scenarios for net-zero by 2050 suggest.  “If we stop investing in 2020, we leave all these resources in the ground ... and then the price will rocket to the roof. And even in developed countries it will be a big issue,” Pouyanné said at the forum, as carried by Energy Intelligence. Global annual upstream spending needs to increase by as much as 54 percent to $542 billion if the oil market is to avert the next supply shortage shock, Moody’s said last week. “Our analysis demonstrates that upstream companies will need to increase their spending considerably for the medium term to fully replace reserves and avoid declines in future production,” Moody’s Vice President Sajjad Alam said."

The first sign of pushback in Europe, the climate alarm nonsense which has created an artificial energy crisis is threatening the world economy. Now oil companies are beginning to sound the alarm and challenge the climate change nonsense.

https://www.energyintel.com/0000017c-5205-d70a-a37d-56f5033a0000

"Speaking at the Energy Intelligence Forum about the recent market turmoil and the accompanying run-up in prices, Pouyanne said the post-pandemic economic recovery was one contributing short-term factor. "The global system of the planet is not designed to absorb suddenly plus 6%-7% growth," he told the online event. But he also pointed to underinvestment in oil and gas — in part because of a shift in capital spending to new energy businesses — and to natural field decline rates of 3%-4%. "If we stop investing in 2020, we leave all these resources in the ground ... and then the price will rocket to the roof. And even in developed countries it will be a big issue," Pouyanne said. The Total CEO emphasized the massive undertaking of transforming the entire energy system — which today is 80%-based on fossil fuels — into a zero-carbon system."

The shape of things to come, China is now officially breaking ranks with the Green Revolution. This is where logic overcomes ideology, the energy crunch overcomes wild philosophy. Look for a domino effect going forward, as other countries follow in China's path. Sanity will prevail. It didn't take long for this to happen.

https://oilprice.com/Latest-Energy-News/World-News/China-Backpedals-On-Climate-Commitments.html

"Last month, the International Energy Agency estimated that China was on track to achieve its peak emission target before its own deadline in 2030 thanks to its latest efforts in this respect. The IEA also said, as quoted by Argus, that China could become a net-zero economy before 2060. This, however, was before the energy crunch caused a shortage that immediately boosted China’s demand for fossil fuels, like Europe’s. The Financial Times reported earlier this week that factory owners in China were buying diesel generators to keep their businesses going as the government imposed power rationing because of the shortage. The demand for oil, coal, and gas is likely to remain strong, based on the Chinese Premier’s statement. In it, Li also said that economic development took priority because it “holds the key to solving all its problems.” To that end, China will continue building its production capacity in all three fossil fuels, the Premier also said. Li also spoke against power rationing, saying the government was working to “keep homes in the north warm and safe this winter, and ensure the stability of industrial and supply chains and sustained, steady economic development.”"

A landmark ruling, this is a game-changer.

https://www.euronews.com/2021/10/11/norwegian-wind-farms-violate-rights-of-sami-reindeer-herders-says-court

"Norway's top court has ruled that two wind farms in the country's west have violated the rights of Sámi reindeer herders. Wind turbines on Norway's Fosen peninsula have illegally encroached on the herders grazing land, the court ruled. Judges at the Norwegian Supreme Court declared that the license for wind power development at Fosen was, therefore "invalid"."

Here is what happens when governments declare war on basic energy supplies...chaos.

https://oilprice.com/Energy/Oil-Prices/Putin-100-Oil-Is-Quite-Possible.html

"Oil prices could hit $100 in case of a colder winter, some analysts and investment banks have said in recent weeks. Record-high natural gas prices are forcing some utilities to switch to oil derivatives instead, boosting demand for crude. Surging natural gas prices, a cold winter, and reopening of international airline travel could push oil prices to $100 per barrel and trigger the next economic crisis, Bank of America said in early October. Recovering global oil demand could send oil prices to $100 a barrel at some point at the end of 2022, despite COVID challenges to demand this coming winter, according to one of the world’s largest independent oil traders, Trafigura."

Norway has officially declared itself an oil nation, reality is pushing back against the Green Dream.

https://oilprice.com/Latest-Energy-News/World-News/Norway-To-Continue-Developing-Oil-Industry-Under-New-Government.html

"The Labour Party won the elections in Norway last month, beating the outgoing Conservatives, but it failed to secure a majority in Parliament, so it formed a coalition with the Centre Party.Labour’s Jonas Gahr Stoere, who will be the next prime minister, said ahead of the elections in September: “I believe that calling time on our oil and gas industry is the wrong industrial policy and the wrong climate policy.” Norway will continue to grant permits for oil and gas exploration on the Norwegian shelf and will keep the current system of oil auctions, the incoming government says. Over the next four years—during the term in office of the government—most of the exploration activity will take place in mature areas of the shelf. The government will also work with the oil and gas industry to ensure that emissions from the Norwegian shelf will be cut by 50 percent by 2030 and to net-zero by 2050, the incoming government said. “We are pleased that the new government will continue the main oil and gas policies of the previous government,” Anniken Hauglie, Director General of the Norwegian Oil and Gas Association, said today, commenting on the incoming government’s platform."

It had to happen, Biden & Co. have painted themselves into a corner, and now are forced to beg the oil industry to help bail them out with American voters. The chief exec got nowhere with the Saudi producers last week, so now is the time to mend fences with domestic oil partners.

"Hey, fellas, you didn't really think that I meant what I said about eliminating the oil sector, it was just a joke, I really love oil...."

https://oilprice.com/Energy/Energy-General/Biden-Consults-US-Oil-Industry-About-Soaring-Gasoline-Prices.html

"If the oil industry decides to help the government rein in prices at the pump, it would not be a favor. "To ensure we have a stable and affordable supply of energy here in the United States, the Biden Administration should support the domestic production of oil and natural gas, ensure the continued production on federal land, work with the industry on sensible and smart methane regulations, and stop calling for higher taxes on the American oil and gas industry," said the chief executive of the American Exploration and Production Council, Anne Bradbury, as quoted by Politico."

The Russians have embraced the new realism about fossil fuels, and accepted that oil and natural gas will continue to grow, albeit as a smaller overall percentage of the energy mix. Now, if we could just inject this realistic approach into the top office on this side of the planet....

https://oilprice.com/Energy/Energy-General/Russia-Oil-And-Gas-Arent-Going-Anywhere-In-The-Coming-Decades.html

"Decades from now, oil and gas will continue to account for the majority of global energy consumption, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak said on Thursday. Oil and gas, which currently account for around 85 percent of the global energy mix, cannot be entirely replaced, the Russian official said the Russian Energy Week forum. Oil currently accounts for around 31 percent of the world’s energy consumption, Novak said, adding that “it is obvious we will never move away entirely from hydrocarbons in the coming decades, despite the various projections of the future of gas and oil.” According to the Russian official, the share of oil and gas in the world’s energy mix is set to drop from 85 percent to around 65-70 percent, not to 20-30 percent as some experts have forecast."

The IEA is now expecting a solid growth for the oil industry going forward.

https://oilprice.com/Energy/Oil-Prices/Energy-Crunch-Pushes-Oil-To-Longest-Weekly-Bull-Run-Since-2015.html

"Due to expectations of higher oil demand from the gas-to-oil switch, the IEA raised its demand forecast for both 2021 and 2022. This year, global oil demand is now expected to grow by 5.5 million bpd from 2020, the agency said, revising up its growth forecast by 170,000 bpd from last month. Next year, demand will rise by another 3.3 million bpd from 2021. This is an upward revision by 210,000 bpd compared to last month’s projection. In 2022, global oil demand is expected to reach 99.6 million bpd, “slightly above pre-Covid levels,” the IEA said.  "

Biden & Co. have been pleading with OPEC to ramp up oil production to relieve the American gasoline pump squeeze. That gas pump squeeze impacts most severely on the folks who voted for Biden & Co., and the rapid upward surge in gasoline prices have damaged the standard of living for many millions of American voters. This is ouch!! time for the those who oppose the oil industry. And it is going to get worse going forward. The Green Dream revolution is hindering the availability of oil and gasoline in the future, due to climate panic.

https://oilprice.com/Energy/Crude-Oil/How-Much-Oil-Can-OPEC-Realistically-Add.html

"Experts are warning that the fossil fuel sector could remain depressed thanks to a big nemesis: the trillion-dollar ESG megatrend. There's growing evidence that companies with low ESG scores are paying the price and increasingly being shunned by the investing community.

According to Morningstar research, ESG investments hit a record $1.65 trillion in 2020, with the world's largest fund manager, BlackRock Inc. (NYSE:BLK), with  $9 trillion in assets under management (AUM), throwing its weight behind ESG and oil and gas divestitures.

Michael Shaoul, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Marketfield Asset Management, has told Bloomberg TV that ESG is largely responsible for lagging oil and gas investments:

"Energy equities are nowhere close to where they were in 2014 when crude oil prices were at current levels. There are a couple very good reasons for that. One is it's been a terrible place to be for a decade. And the other reason is the ESG pressures that a lot of institutional managers are on lead them to want to underplay investment in a lot of these areas."

In fact, U.S. shale companies are now facing a real dilemma after disavowing new drilling and prioritizing dividends and debt paydowns, yet their inventory of productive wells continues falling off a cliff.

According to the U.S. Energy Information Administration, the United States had 5,957 drilled but uncompleted wells (DUCs) in July 2021, the lowest for any month since November 2017 from nearly 8,900 at its 2019 peak. At this rate, shale producers will have to sharply ramp up the drilling of new wells just to maintain the current production clip.

If we need any more proof that shale drillers are sticking to their newfound psychology of discipline, there is recent data from the EIA. That data shows a sharp decline in DUCs in most major U.S. onshore oil-producing regions. This, in turn, points to more well completions but less new well drilling activity. It's true that higher completion rates have been leading to an uptick in oil production, particularly in the Permian; however, those completions have sharply lowered DUC inventories, which could limit oil production growth in the United States in the coming months."

The Green Dream policies of Biden & Co. and the self-inflicted energy crisis in Europe have created powerful market forces driving up the price of oil. How is it that no one saw this coming? It doesn't take a genius to see what would happen, so how did the current guys in D.C. not anticipate this development? Bad economic advice again? That happens all too often in government.

https://oilprice.com/Energy/Oil-Prices/Oil-Rallies-To-Fresh-Multi-Year-Highs.html

"Oil extended gains from Friday, which wrapped up the eighth consecutive weekly gain for WTI Crude—the longest weekly winning streak since 2015. On Friday, Brent briefly topped $85 a barrel as energy markets continue to tighten ahead of the winter. The rally continued early on Monday with the expectation of higher demand for oil products such as fuel oil and diesel to replace natural gas for power generation amid record-high gas prices in Europe and Asia. “As the energy crisis stemming from severe natural gas shortages in Europe and a coal crunch in China enters its fourth week, worries over an oil supply shortfall for fuel replacement are snowballing,” Vanda Insights said in a note early on Monday. Brent briefly hit $86 a barrel “due to a tight physical market,” ING strategists Warren Patterson and Wenyu Yao said on Monday. “Over-compliance by the OPEC+ on output cuts have been helping crude oil supplies to remain tight,” the strategists said, noting that Bloomberg data showed the group pumped last month some 740,000 bpd of crude below the agreed production limit."

There is no legal remedy for civil disobedience, so it appears that any group can invade government buildings and shut down the workings of government. The ironic aspect of these recent incidents is that the wild protestors themselves would jump into their own internal combustion engine vehicles following this mayhem, and pollute the atmosphere driving home, not just with fallacious words.

The push by governments for a green agenda will result in some counter-action, which may become violent. The public may be panicked by climate change, but once aroused, public panic can be uncontrollable and can actually turn against those who create it. Stoking the fires of public panic is an irresponsible political game.

https://oilprice.com/Energy/Crude-Oil/A-Successful-Energy-Transition-Will-Need-Oil-Demand-Destruction.html

"Being truly green would require, in addition to massive investments in utility-scale renewable installations and storage, a substantial reduction in energy demand. Whether this would mean giving up cars and dryers in favor of bicycles and natural drying in the sun and wind - and whether this would be enough - is yet unclear.

For now, the idea is to switch to electric cars rather than shun personal transportation as a whole. And there is already opposition to the mandatory phasing out of ICE vehicles in parts of Europe. Remember the yellow vest protests in France? They were ignited by a proposal to increase fuel taxes for environmental purposes. That was perhaps supposed to sap demand for fuel but instead led to quite violent protests.

Energy demand destruction is the only way the energy transition would work. And yet, it is the one thing no one wants to do, not directly, at least, because it could be dangerous. "

UK Gas Boiler Ban – Everything You Need to Know

The UK government in its infinite wisdom (or in this case stupidity) is set to ban gas boilers in all new homes from 2025 and all replacement boilers must be "green" for existing homes.

https://www.edfenergy.com/heating/advice/uk-boiler-ban

Gas is a relatively low Co2 emitter and an essential form of energy to help us with the energy transition. To ban gas boilers to cheaply heat homes will lead to higher prices many elderly people cant afford and potentially cause them not to heat their homes and many will literally die of cold.

Well done Boris another genius decision to go along with all the other f*ck ups he has made. He is totally blinded by the climate change nonsense, and is doing this to try to win over the younger voters who all seem to think the world is going to end in 2030 due to climate change. I've got news for them it isn't! Instead of glueing yourselves to motorways how about going and getting a job (of which there are 1.2million vacancies) to help the economy recover??

I gotta admit, it makes little sense to heat a space with electricity, if that electricity is sourced from a heat engine, where at least 50% of the original energy is thrown away to start with.   Even using a heat pump makes little sense with that source.

Space heat is much easier when done with combustion, although a secure cask of spent fuel from a nuc reactor is an option that would do the trick, too.
