Tom Kirkman + 8,860 June 3, 2018 The "resource curse" strikes Kenya. I predict an increase, and not a decrease, in internal squabbling over the new found oil money in Kenya. Uhuru warns Turkanas, Pokots against armed conflicts over oil President Uhuru Kenyatta has warned Turkana and Pokot communities against fighting over the crude oil which was flagged off from the region on Sunday. Uhuru on Sunday said all the benefits of the oil will be lost if the two communities will not co-exist and maintain peace. He said the launch marked the "beginning of a long fruitful journey that will strengthen economic and commercial partnerships." He said the early oil pilot scheme is a key component of the Big Four agenda and a key enabler for infrastructure development in the county. The Head of State said Kenya must not take the path of its neighbours who have suffered the ripple effect of unending conflicts around proceeds from oil products. Dennis Morton + 6 June 13, 2018 (edited) The Turkana and Pokot are not in conflict over oil, but rather over geographical borders between the counties. Tullow Oil and partners Africa Oil with Total may be a possible cause of community conflict in the Lokichar basin as they are not delivering on a number of social investment and local content plans. In addition the Petroleum Bill is still to be passed. Other issues include the awarding of contracts (such as the oil transport) to companies affiliated with government officials. Then there is the profit share to communities which has been reduced to 5% .... lack of transparency and accountability all the way Edited June 13, 2018 by Dennis Morton spelling
