Uncertain Times: is the US turning into a major crude oil supplier to India?

Indian oil imports from US

Hellen Keller, the woman who conquered her own blindness by a flash of inspiration out of the blue, once said that a bend in a road is not the end of the road, while adding, “unless you fail to make the turn.”

This is the context in which India’s unease must be looked at over its concerns about the evolving constrains on its crucial crude oil supply.

Will the US that accounted for 5/4% of India’s imports last year, step in and seize the opportunity?

Is 5/4% an India thing? What do you use for division?

pretty sure it's just a typo.  Look at your keyboard - the dot and the slash are next to each other, and the article clearly states 5.4%.

That said, I would expect India to be a major winner in the push by mideast oil exporters to replace markets lost in N. America and to areas now being supplied by the US and Canada - India is the closest major market, and unlike Europe there is no pesky Suez canal or overland pipelines through Turkey or the Levant that have to be negotiated - just a short straight tanker run from the red sea or the suez canal.  It creates a win - win - large nearby markets for the exporters, and just in time delivery with low freight costs for India.
