EV fantasies make for climate posturing

President Biden has signed an executive order for 50 per cent of new car sales to be EVs of plug-in hybrids by 2030. This completely absurd of course. EV sales in the US were under 2 per cent in 2020, although there are forecasts that they could reach 10 per cent by 2025, but 50 per cent? Even adding in plug in hybrids this seems a huge stretch. However, it is a non-binding order.. no need for anyone to do anything. The president also announced stricter car emission standards but I'm unclear about the legal standing of that declaration. In other words its a piece of climate posturing, like saying you are aiming for net zero by 2050. Biden will be long out of office by 2030, let alone 2050. Make the promise now and blame your successors for not making good on it.

That is how politics works, tell the masses what they want to hear, but then do what reality dictates must be done.
