Jan van Eck + 7,558 MG June 9, 2018 (edited) Yesterday, Jun 7, 2018, the electorate in Ontario handed a stunning defeat to the Liberal Party, which had run the place as a personal fiefdom for the past fifteen years. Basically, the Liberal Party was demolished - going from a majority status to only 7 seats out of 124, and losing Official Party status. The Conservatives (also known there as the Tories) just hammered them, despite having a bumbling Leader, no platform that anybody could see, a lawsuit from Ford's brother's widow saying he spent the brother's value of the family business, leaving the widow in financial distress (millions are frittered), and no credentials other than a stint as a councillor in Toronto. Now the Conservatives has a majority, can form the Government and run the place according to their whim with impunity. Final tally: Conservatives, 76; Liberals, 7; New Democrats, 40; Greens, 1. The one salient campaign promise (besides dropping the gasoline tax) was to scrap the carbon cap-and-trade system, a favorite of Ottawa, the national Capitol. Pierre Trudeau and the Liberals, smarting under the loss, have vowed to go to war with Ontario and impose a direct carbon tax on the Province. Yep, folks, the loony carbon-tax idea is now set to be center stage in an epic battle between Justin Trudeau running the Feds, and the most populous Province. This is going to be a showdown of showdowns, Canada-style. Looks like any idea of a pipeline from Alberta to either Sarnia or Montreal is out the window, pumping Alberta Oil-sands crude. https://www.thestar.com/news/canada/2018/06/08/ottawa-stands-firm-on-carbon-price-after-doug-fords-ontario-election-win.html Edited June 9, 2018 by Jan van Eck scrivener error 1
Tom Kirkman + 8,860 June 9, 2018 Wow, the Liberal Party got decimated. Great news, in my opinion. Trudeau's middle name seems to be "tax". But he may find some resistance trying to shove a carbon tax down the throats of an unwilling populace. Never interrupt an enemy when he is busy shooting himself in the foot. Heck, may as well hand him some bullets so he can shoot his other foot too.

The underlying momentum of the left wings of Canadian Parties (Liberals and New Democrats [NDP]) is to demonstrate to the rest of the laggards on the planet how pure the Canadians are when it comes to saving the planet. From a strictly physics/engineering perspective, it is all rubbish. CO2 is a trace gas, measured in parts per million. Altering some parts out of a million has no substantive significance. What CO2 will do is advance the rate of growth of trees (more wood per unit time), and improve the rate of material mass in various crops. The relative temperature of the earth's surface is a function of two components: (1) sunspot activity on the sun surface; (2) the jiggling or change of tilt in the earth's axis. The earth is not a spheroid; rather, it is compressed through the pole axis and expanded through the equator, and is an Oblate Spheroid. Additionally, the masses along the outer shell of the earth sit irregularly, due to tectonic plate movement and collisions. For example, if you were to extend a sphere line around the planet across the Indian Ocean below India, then the drop to the surface of the water would be about 178 feet. Why is this? because the Indian sub-continent land mass is pushing North, creating the Himalayas, and digging out a huge deep trench behind it. When the mass material is removed, there is less gravity; now the ocean water will migrate to areas where there is more mass, and more gravity. So you have these oceans dropping in height because there is no material underneath it. The implications for the rotation of the planet is sobering: as the masses are unevenly distributed, the entire planet is wobbling its way through space. Every now and then a wobble or jiggle gets outside the recovery envelope and the vertical axis precesses a bit farther. It does that in an instantaneous jolt, and the result is that if you were to project the axis out into space and put up a screen 100 million light years away, you would see that point of axis create its own ellipse on the screen over time. It is not stationary or fixed. Each time the point moves, you end up with a change of climate on the surface of planet earth. Now, is there anything people can do about it? Nope. And what is the overall prognosis? Unfortunately, the prognosis is Ice Planet Hoth, where the majority of the time the planet is partly covered in this vast ice sheet, extending down half-way across France and as far south in the USA as Missouri. That ice sheet is going to be over a mile thick, so there goes your retirement home. Can you convince the "climate ideologues" of any of this? Nope. And therefore, Trudeau et al are going to go to war with the new Ontario Government over carbon emissions, on the idea that Canada has to save the planet - or at least show the way to the illiterati. You can bet that Doug Ford and the Conservatives are not going to have any truck with this, so you are headed for a repeat of the Clone Wars. The winning side is the one that can educate the voters - or, at least, not tax them into oblivion. Bring your popcorn and watch it live! 1
