Shutters... roll down, and yes, everyone has room for them.  Very common in Germany for instance.  Common here in VERY sunny southern aspect locations where people are trying to keep the sun OUT.

We already have roll down blinds plus heavy curtains. 

Heat retention is more of an issue here than keeping sun out.

No the energy security situation made me reconsider the works. 

I decided to upgrade the new windows to triple from standard double

and increase the wall insulation to 80mm from 70mm. Bizairrely that knock £100 off the insulation price. It seems the 80mm was cheaper than 70mm for the same product.
