Solar Jobs Growth or Not?

Recommended Posts

Solar growth started in 2010 and by 2016 more than 260,000 Americans worked in this industry. Manufacturing accounts for less than 15 percent of US solar jobs while installation amounts to more than half of them. Will the imposing tariffs on imported panels cost the industry loss of jobs?

Solar industry is probably the fastest growing profession, but  imposing tariffs on imported panels would make it very hard to keep it up. These tariffs could double solar prices and it could cost this industry about 90,000 jobs.

BLS says that solar photovoltaic installer will be the top growing job in terms of hiring over the next nine years. Fact. Expected to double by 2026. Fact. And wind turbine technicians were the second fastest growing  job.

That said, the industry is so small that even though the percentage increase is significant, it's really a drop in the bucket.

Millennials sure prefer these jobs to those found in the dirty fossil fuel industry, but it's not big enough--sorry millennials, you'll have to work in oil for a bit longer.
